Across Thunder River reference question

Hey all,

Having owned the Conan AE book for awhile, I've finally finished collecting many of the older supplements, and I absolutely LOVE Across The Thunder River. I want to make the Pictish Wilderness as brutal and scary as it should be, and I noticed Vincent's recommendation on page 152 to use the terrain rules given in At the Edges of Civilisation to their fullest extent.

I can't find a chapter, paragraph, supplement, rules section, or anything else with that title! Is it some article from early S&P, or is it just a dropped reference that was never published? If so, what are these rules?

I've searched 100+ times in the forums and Google for an answer to this question, to no avail.

If anyone knows the answer to this seemingly obscure question, please help!

Thanks,
MaiteteLNX

Is that possibly an old working title for the chapter "Abroad in Hyboria" in the "Hyboria's Fiercest" book?

That is the chapter that deals with rules for terrain issues.

If it's not that, I don't know then

We're playing the Thunder River campaign from the book at the moment, its fantastic and already one of the players has sort of complained that the action is a little bit too "on the edge of your seat" and dangerous - perfect for Hyboria then! I just make a few rules up regarding terrain, usually on the spot when we need them. For example, if fighting in the thick forest or undergrowth any reach weapons or long weapons (think greatswords and bardiches) are at a -4 to hit as they need space to swing. Taken from the book, i love the ideas of ambushing picts bull-rushing players off the trails and into the undergrowth, or leading them into their pit traps they use for hunting. Theres so many good (or should that be bad?) things to pitch the players up against

The original draft of Across the Thunder River included terrain material, including a map of forest terrain one could use. The section was edited out, but the editor neglected to edit the reference. It is one of those things I simply have no control over.

IIRC, I reused the terrain material in Hyboria's Fiercest.

Thanks for all of the quick replies!

Specifically for Vincent (hope it's okay that I use your first name): I noticed in the paragraph preceding the reference a mention of a rule involving a 5-foot step requiring a move action in thick underbrush. I didn't see that mentioned in Hyboria's Fiercest, and was wondering if you'd be able to elaborate on that part, maybe with the materials that were cut if you still have them. I really would like to stick it to my players with that kind of obstacle, and they love details like that. I'm sure they'll, ahem, appreciate such a move.

By the way, Across the Thunder River is one of the most fascinating, brilliant, and engaging pieces of writing I've ever read. I'm actually reading it cover to cover. When was the last time you did that with an RPG supplement? Great job.
