A survey: Vote for change to the MG facing/ready rule.

I thought this was a open forum, didn't know I had to wait for permission or gain a copy right from others on the board, to ask questions!?!

Cordas did start the discussion, but those discussions get lost in the threads, so I thought a simple cut to the quick survey was needed. Just that simple, no egos, no convuluted longwinded disection of words just a simple A. or B.

By the way I vote A.

This seems to be one of those cases where a little common sense between the players should reveal the only logical answer.. which would be A.

This sounds like one of those things where a phrasing that may not even be intentional ends up setting precedent, despite it making no sense at all

I'm not going to break the perfect consensus by voting B. It's "A" for me as well :wink:. I have requested a BFE FAQ from Matt, but I don't think "A" will be in it. Regardless of the official ruling decision, I'd like to see this subject, handling of terrain border and model interfaces and expanded descriptions of Line of Sight with examples included in a FAQ. It's time to start one, and other MGP games have had them. It will also save Matt's keyboard from him wearing out the keys necessary to type "play the rules as written". :wink:

I responded in agreement to this in the thread where I first noticed you propose this and second it here as well! (I also tossed in my two cents for wording of good old "Option A" here to be included as the correct official ruling, although I too feel for whatever reason this will be ruled B officially. The FAQ for BFE is an idea which is too logical to ignore. (Although I still can't wait to get my "fresh off the press" Advanced rules in May).

I'm pretty sure he can type this phrase in his sleep by now! I wonder if he wakes his "significant other" while repeating it out loud in his sleep? My wife says I occasionally complain about lousy dice rolls in mine. :lol:

Maybe it's my Chicano accent, maybe it's because I went to Public School, Maybe I'm just simple-minded but It looks like you guys are LOOOKING TO FinD fault somehow by Reading Too Much Into a Phrase.

Hey, I went to public school too, and this is pretty clear: if you play the rules as written, the answer is B. You can't move a figure with a Ready action for the same reason you can't move one with a Shoot action. I don't know how anyone can read it differently.

Now, I think A makes sense, and vote that way if my vote makes any difference. Keeping things simple (B) for quick start rules makes sense, but we can just fold this in with all the "official" things you can do with a Ready action when the advanced rules come out.

Out of curiosity, how often does this come up in a game? Do you see lots of flanking attacks show up between the time you move into a location and the time you ready your MG? Do you often reorient when flanked, or do you retreat to a more protected location instead?

I don't worry about facing, as I always set up my MG on the top of an MBT's turret. That way, it can face wherever I need it to.

Oh, just one more thing. I was kidding :lol:.

I'm voting A too.
Remeber units don't actually have a facing for firing until it is nominated during the ready action. Not many models in this game actually have a weapon that must fire in one direction (shadows and readied MGs excepting). When the ready action is performed, it's up to the player to nominate the model's facing so their opponent knows where he shouldn't be stepping. :wink:

This has occured quite often in games I play in, and also in some games I have watched. It has happened most often due to people just moving models and not bothering to orrientate them, apart from a general forward facing, which you could put down to careless model placing in the same way some players have heroicaly stupid sargs who lead from the front so are the 1st casualty removed. However it has also happened fairly often due to flanking, particularly when one play plays a very defensive game.

now il try to exsplain why !

when you look at the card it says its to set up the weapon, ie extend bipod gone prone for example, part of the setting up is decideing the facind as infanry i think (cold be wrong) have a 360 arc normaly so just do the ready and tell your oponent your setting up your weapon to cover this angle and turn modle to show the intention, so your oponent then has a guid,

but this to me is sorta evan not needed to think about as so far every game ive played ive had the minimi para facing the corect directio any way befor the ready or had to use a move action first to get better cover for it befor setting it up, so seems slightly hypathetical to me.

bonus dice are lost if you move, so from the wording id say you need a move action to get the new position then another ready to re set up again.

thing is again in practice if you do need to change the facing your probably gonna wanna move a tad to get better cover befor setting up so again slightly hypathetical question realy.

end of the day with to such weapons in many units or armys its not to hard to set them up early in the right place to between them cover a large area with a bit of cross fire where you may need it. if set up well they probably wont need to move all game unles you wish to take them from defence to offence.

dont forget the support weapon can be set up but rest of unit can still move around without efecting the support weapon, for yanks and brits this is good as they effectivly have a 12" comand range and can spread 4 men out over a 2 foot area if done right.
