A question about Adaptive Armour if you please

Hello all,

I'm hoping the folks hereabouts can help me out.

I looked through the rulebook and then did a topic search and couldn't find the answer on these boards.

When a ship with Adaptive Armour takes extra damage through a critical hit, is that damage halved?

If, say, I got an critical hit that did 5 damage and 5 crew, would it be reduced to 2 damage?

A follow up question. If the critical damage is indeed halved, but one of the critical hits from the incoming salvo knocked out the Adaptive Armour trait, would the subsequent critical hits from that salvo still be halved?

Thanks a bunch for your time and attention.

You calculate the total damage for the hit, including all criticals, and then halve it. For example 2 solid hits and 1 critical would do 3 damage, then say the critical is Thrusters Damaged, that is 1 extra damage. So total damage is 4, halved to 2. Total crew loss is 3, halved to 1.

I would say the adaptive armour is knocked out as soon as you get the crit. So you would not halve damage done for that hit.

i would say the AA works for that hit but any future shots it would have no effect. as the AA has absorbed it before any crits really.

But really it doesn't absorb anything until the entire attack from that weapon has been resolved.

We've always played that the hit that takes it out scores full damage, because of the way the process works itself out.

We've always played that all effects from a given crit take effect as the last step in figuring out a given weapon hit. So AA would still be in effect for the hit that takes it out. We viewed it sort of like the Damage table, you complete the weapon before you go to the table, not the moment you have enough damage to send you to it.

Just a quick additional question if I may highjack this post:

Which do you do first, adaptive armour or Close all blast doors?

I was doing Dodge, the CBD for the HITs and then AA for the damage...
Was I wrong?
Yes, CBD affects damage not hits.

Dodge, interceptors, shields affect hits.
GEG, CBD, AA affect damage.

Worse.... damage and crew...

lots and lots of rolls... biggest slow down in second ed given how often folks use it. Fun in some cases bad in others...

Would probably have made a lot of difference in how long the game with my wife (my EA: Crusade vs her ISA) took. I ended up winning in the end because she made the critical mistake of getting into furball range, but we were using CBD as discounting HITs so her White Stars were absorbing a LOT of hits...
