I don't know about you, but I think all these licensed properties are also weiging down Mongoose as much as the name brand helps. As much as I like SST, and I'll probably like the upcoming Conan, there's just something missing from Mongoose's lineup.
There is BFE, which isn't licensed, but is based on reality somewhat.
It's just that with the need to adhere to the preset artistic design of certain licenses, they're missing out on making some really beautiful collector's quality miniatures.
The various types of MI and bugs look okay, but the designs are ho hum to me. They look good because they look like their show counterparts, but not so much on their own.
It's only the units that were designed solely by mongoose that have the best look in the game. The exos were great, the overseer looks imposing. Those skinny warriors are pretty much the only skinnies I'd buy. The mantis and assissin bugs embodied the cool new designs I was looking for. Even the Forth, which are a bit anime derived look very cool.
So I'm thinking that if Mongoose ever made a fantasy or scifi game of their own, they really could make every miniature in their line up something that could rival 40k in terms of artistic beauty.
