A Calm Call for Close Combat Confusion Clarification

In several places* "close combat" or "close combat weapon" is mentioned, but I don't see a definition of "close combat" anywhere. I presume it means weapons that use the melee skill, or use of the melee skill, but, as I said, there is no definition that I found. It could be confused with any combat in close range, for example. Is unarmed combat or using am animal's natural attacks considered close combat?

Could it not be just changed to "melee combat"?

*p. 50: Vargr Bite trait
*p.73: Parrying paragraph
*p.74: 1st paragraph in Grappling section.
*p.77: second paragraph of Zero Gravity section.

Under encounters, page 79, Close range is anything up to 5 meters. With a once over, I'm not sure if melee range is defined though? Should it be assume it to be close only?

Brilliant example of assuming everyone will know what you are talking about. You are right - nowhere is close combat actually defined :)

Changing this now...

Won't be anything you are not expecting, other than ranged weapons other than Pistols cannot be used in close combat.

Yeah nothing says lovin' like blunt force trauma... as in Buttstroke, Pistol Whip etc. I have an old Army manual at home that shows you how to slap someone across the face with a .45 which to mind result in a broken jaw, 'cause a .45 is a serious piece of metal! So if they're not already in there I would definitely want some guidance on using a gun as a club, and not all would qualify. Buttstroking you with a M1 Garand will do far more damage than a M16.
