A&A Ships

I have tons of ships from the Axis & Allies: War at Sea game. The rules leave a lot to be desired so I am looking at another rule set. I purchased the Victory at Sea rules at my FLGS and hope to try them out soon. I have a couple of questions:

Has anybody who has used these ships adjusted the scale?

I am not a naval expert by any means but I think the A&A ships are 1:1200 scale. Which would mean an almost doubling of everything. Playing on a game table 12 feet x 8 feet sure is gonna limit the number of times this game hits the table! I am thinking of using the scale as written and ignoring that the ships are on the large size.

Has anybody played with the Aircraft rules?

The aircraft rules as written seem to under estimate their power. I noticed fighters are prohibited from attacking ships, but some fighters were capable of carrying of carrying a limited number of bombs and crude missiles to use against ships. Alternate payloads?

Can fighters also stay flying during the entire game? I noticed there are rules for planes landing on carriers, however I did'nt see a reason to do so. Did I miss something?

Lastly, I have noticed a ton of material for this game in the S&P magazine, wow! Thats amazing customer support and its the main reason I gravitated to this set of rules over other sets. Is there plans to produce more material for this game that can be purchased? I am thinking a supplement that targeted guys like me with lots of plastic ships from the A&A game would sell well.

Peace

There is a supplement in the works that will address most, if not all of the points you raised above. The rules themselves are not scale specific so I guess you could use them as written with the A&A models. It might suffer a bit on the aesthetic front (smaller models give a much better impression of the vastness of a large naval battle) but it should be OK. Give it ashot and let us know what hapens :)

Thanks for the heads up DM,

Any idea on the expected release date of this supplement?

The reason I ask is because I run a game convention (www.fallcon.com) and would love to include this game. I would love to show the game off in the best light possible.

Peace

A & A ships are scaled at around 1/1800 and the planes at around 1/600 or 700 or thereabouts.

THe plane scale is largely irrelevant though

DM, will the supplement resolve the issue of '6 bombers - one bomb' issue? It's a bit annoying to have a flight of bombers(or torpedo-bombers) and only get off onne shot with each flight... though I suppose it IS balanced...

I can't say too much just now because its not finalised but the question of aircraft ADs is being addressed and the results so far appear much more satisfactory.

Does this mean that in the new rules aircraft are largely going to eclipse the need for big gun ships?

They don't from the test game I've played, but aircraft are a lot better and more realistic, I played using the aircraft rules on DMs site, the link is in his sig.
However using DP guns gives a King George V 17 AA dice, which made short work of my Stukas.
My advice, the supplement will solve all the problems in your life. Trust in it.
