500 and 1000 Ton Bays

Posting off topic comments is rarely constructive however freely given.

Since the thread was started by me thread, maybe they should ask for clarifications if they don't understand the question or start their own thread.

Rude is when the thread creator asks you not to post off topic comments and you do so anyway.

Man, you are having a baad day. :D

Please breath deeply, re-read your threads and think how you could have expresed your ideas more clearly.

Overall, in various threads, you seem to have a lot of issues with the MgT space ship design rules, issues which many other posters don't agree with you about. Perhaps you should submit your own space ship design rules in detail, rather than basing your threads on attacking MgTs, sometimes without apparently understanding them.

I do not have a problem with the MGT ship design rules. I was eventually given direct and concise answers to my questions so I changed my way of thinking.

I admittedly do have issues with people giving me answers not related to a directly asked question.

I made a mistake by expecting MGT players to be more rational than the general population. I have lowered my expectations approprietly and now anticipate the 7 to 1 ratio of off topic, nit-picking and useless comments to the helpful and informative posts.

Breathing deeply.

All is balanced in the Third Imperium...

Look, superfluousness abounds!

seriously dude/dudette, lighten up. It's the internet, you will always get off-topic comments, as well as people misunderstanding.

Now, it certainly looks like you want to re-write a major part of the rules. The rules in high guard regarding higher TL hulls are for non-imperial ships, and should suit your purposes nicely. as for lowest bidder, it cetainly does not mean worse. After all, is the F-22 any worse than the YF-23? No, it's much better, and cheaper to boot...

Spinal Mounts are not 5000 tons. If you had, say, a 5001 ton capital ship, a 5000 ton spinal mount would leave you with 1 ton left over. Spinal Mounts are variable in tonnage. You can have a 500 ton Spinal Mount, or a 1000 ton Spinal Mount.

eghads, I have suddenly bridged the gap between 100 ton bays and 5000 ton Spinal Mounts.

5000 tons is the base size for Meson A and Particle A spinal mounts.

Do you understand that I was using an example so as not to list every spinal mount weapons tonnage at every possible tech level?

You obviously skipped over my other replies to this thread or simply ignored them and posted your own interpretation anyway.

Please illustrate to the group how you can have a 500 ton spinal mount within the rules of High Guard.

The smallest I calculate is a TL15 Meson A at 1000 Tons and without bending the rules, you can still only have 1.

500 and 1000 ton bay weapons. This is a niche I would like to have seen filled in the HG rulebook.

Anyone else feel this way?

Are their any MGT rules that fill the gaping hole between 5000+ ton spinal mounts and 100 ton bays?

I do think that there should be 'upgunned' versions of larger "bays". I have always disliked the label "bay" because it refers to an internal weapon when in fact it is meant to refer to both internal and external weapon mounts.

I liked the old GURPS Traveller rules that increased the size and damage of a weapon by increasing the energy factor of it. It wasn't (as I recall, and its been a while) a 1 for 1 damage to power increase, so I would think you could make massive energy weapons to mount on massive ships. The reasoning is the same they used in naval combat. Bigger ships allowed you to mount more defenses and bigger guns. Therefore the enemy matched, or beat you to be more powerful than you. And to continue the historical aspect, we saw tiny ships (first DD's, then torpedo boats) that were cheap but able to sink very expensive and big battleships. So the point-counterpoint continued.

I think the issue with High Guard is that its not a truly scaled-up concept. By that I mean the ship design system doesn't make much sense if you limit the size of your weapons. With the exception of spinal mounts, you top out at 100 ton 'bays'... Logically, err, using naval design logic from today and scaled up/through time, one would think that a 500,000 ton battleship would mount more than 1 weapon that was bigger than what a 1,000 ton ship could mount.
