I took a peek at a copy of the RPG yesterday evening. It's a shame for the guys at BI, because the book really looks good. Artwork is great as usual (not something GW normally has a problem with) but it appears well laid out and presented. Character generation in particular stood out, with a good mix of base classes and really quick character generation. Not sure about how the game handles multi-classing, if at all.
If Mongoose picked this sucker up I'd buy into it. Overall I have been happy with my Mongoose purchases over the years and there is certainly a lot of potential in books for a 40k game. Race books like the B5 ones on Orks, Tau, Eldar etc. Adventures, A ship book, Source material from the novels. I was a fan of WEG source books on the Star Wars novels.
I'd buy into this no worries,
I don't think you'd be the only one. Many tabletop gamers have been waiting for an official 40k RPG for years, and the fact that there won't be any further products in the line is a shame. There were no vehicle rules in the core book from what I saw, but I hear they're available to download.
Shame, as you say there's so much material possible. I would have liked to see a campaign based on an Inquisitor's attempt to stop a genestealer cult from taking over a hive world. It could dip into all the old Space Hulk era fluff, genestealer hybrids, patriarchs, etc...
The decision to stop producing stuff for Dark Heresey won't stop me picking up a copy though. If anyone picks this up, and assuming licencing agreements are favourable, it could do quite well.
