40K

I bought the Novel Horus Rising and have been really enjoying it. I was all set to buy the RPG when I read they axed it. I don't want to buy into a dead game.

I took a peek at a copy of the RPG yesterday evening. It's a shame for the guys at BI, because the book really looks good. Artwork is great as usual (not something GW normally has a problem with) but it appears well laid out and presented. Character generation in particular stood out, with a good mix of base classes and really quick character generation. Not sure about how the game handles multi-classing, if at all.

If Mongoose picked this sucker up I'd buy into it. Overall I have been happy with my Mongoose purchases over the years and there is certainly a lot of potential in books for a 40k game. Race books like the B5 ones on Orks, Tau, Eldar etc. Adventures, A ship book, Source material from the novels. I was a fan of WEG source books on the Star Wars novels.

I'd buy into this no worries,

I don't think you'd be the only one. Many tabletop gamers have been waiting for an official 40k RPG for years, and the fact that there won't be any further products in the line is a shame. There were no vehicle rules in the core book from what I saw, but I hear they're available to download.

Shame, as you say there's so much material possible. I would have liked to see a campaign based on an Inquisitor's attempt to stop a genestealer cult from taking over a hive world. It could dip into all the old Space Hulk era fluff, genestealer hybrids, patriarchs, etc...

The decision to stop producing stuff for Dark Heresey won't stop me picking up a copy though. If anyone picks this up, and assuming licencing agreements are favourable, it could do quite well.

That seems weird. Given a choice between having a big book that gives me a start for playing in the 40K universe, or ignoring what's released and thus never play 40K, I'd definitely choose the former. Something is better than nothing - once you've got the base to build from then you can go anywhere with it. Plus it means you don't need to spend more money on it afterwards if it's the only book in the line ;)

Now if I could only get a copy of the darn thing...

If your in the UK leisure games has some left still and they do deliver abroad, But it is quite expensive.

I totally agree - especially after reading the first few chapters last night. Dark Heresy is not only one hell of a RPG but probably one of the best RPG books I've ever owned. It's huge & extremely well organized and beyond attractive. For WFRP players, DH will feel like an old girlfriend who's grown hotter & learned a few, dirty tricks. So glad I pre-ordered it from Amazon months ago - and very surprised they actually delivered it! I'm not especially concerned about the game ending (but extremely disappointed and confused) as the 40k universe has such a dedicated following that unofficial RPG goodness is sure to be readily available.

Yes it is lovely, the background fluff is wonderful - the whole pre designed sector is great and very usable. It nice to see that much of the additional small details from, in particular, Dan Abnet is inside.

Like all good RPGs it seems to have the love of the background universe showing through by the creators - all so important.

There is so much potential and although sadened by its departure there will be, I think, a long long unofficial life.

Personally having run Narrative/ RPG games using the Inquisitor system before it will be most useful but am trying to decide at what level to have it- previously having one player as an Inquistor worked well (although you do need the right type of player which I had) but then the relitively low level pawns idea of Dark Heresy also seems intersesting.............

Well fantasy flight games has got the rights to publish board games, card games and role playing games in games workshops intelllectual properties. This includes 40K and so there is hope that they will continue the wonderful work done by black industries.

Yeah but from the notice it sounds like they may have the sense to just pick up the game and run with it. We should know soon as BI online store has gone and if FFG puts Purge The Unclean on theirs, I would say that it's a safe bet they will just continue from where BI left off.
