3D printing for Traveller

Just ordered a Bambu 2PS 3D printer. Once I get the hang of it I know will be printing all kinds of Traveller stuff. I will obviously be buying all kinds of STL files from 2nd Dynasty.

One question I have for those that are already doing this. What is your go to printed tile for terrain. While I will eventually get the Free Trader I am sure. I want to be able to setup different encounters representing different ship plans. For instance my next adventure in my at home campaign is Search and Rescue, so being able to layout things using 3D printed tiles representing the search and rescue ship or the subsidized liner would be cool. I see that 2nd dynasty has more than one option, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

And does anyone have a suggestion for a STL for a ATV something like was used in Mission to Mithril?

Plus, I am very disappointed I can't find any files for Geonee.😁

I print a *lot* of 28mm stuff for AD&D, printing is time consuming not forgetting painting on top. Scale matters particularly with Zoom sessions, 15mm is probably a bit too small

Camera setup is important too, I used both overhead and panoramic views, neither worked well, I’m moving to tripod cameras to move around the table for better perspectives and player enjoyment

I play mostly in person. So for me it is more about it looking cool on the table.

This guy does stuff that's in the zone. And a few of them are free:

In regards to aliens, you can get a fair way with the custom hero making sites. My preference, because of the free options being very extensive, is TitanCraft. Vargr in particular are trivial, since it has wolf people. The Modern and Sci-Fi packs are worth purchasing, but you can do a lot with free.

It's also worth remembering that you can pose with a modern gun, delete the gun, download that and then add a SF gun in blender, which is super easy to learn.

Velrock Art Miniatures are also a GREAT SF resource. His miniatures are multishell, so you can ungroup parts in something like Blender, move them around and kitbash to get what you need. That makes even his Fantasy minis useful for Traveller, as well as ones that are expys for 40K or Star Wars or other SF brands. He also has a lot of free samples you can try out, and a very generous welcome pack. As it happens, the February Spacefarer set (which includes the January one) is very Traveller suitable.

(edit: Just keep an eye out for scale. Velrock has some at 28mm, most at 32mm and some at 35mm, depending on the expected game they'll be used with. The Star Wars stuff is 35mm, to suit Star Wars Flashpoint, for example. Most are labelled somewhere, but older stuff may not be. Always best to size check and rescale in the slicer)

And I can't close up without spruiking Anvil Digital Forge. Both multipart and multishell, they have a VERY extensive range of science fiction miniatures of many genres. The modern, near modern and cyberpunk ones are particularly useful, but even the gothic ones have useful parts, and are often solid general SF once the grimdark is stripped off.
