2Q: BAR damage dice and wheel movement

Hi
I have two queries re WaW

1) should the BAR damage dice be 3d6 when the Bren is only 2d6

Iknow it can go up to 4D6 when Prone which is good and perhaps the intention is to give Bren fewer Dice when not prone because its harder to control when firing from the hip?

2) page 28 Wheeled movement quote: 'if vehicle using wheeled movement is damaged during same turn then it must be moved 1d6" away from the source of the damage'

I find this rule hard to figure out - what if there is a terrain feature, other unit impassable area etc in the way of the 1d6" move e.g a truck using wheel movement takes damage from an MG42 from straight ahead and has to move backwards (away from the fire) by (roll1d6) 5", but there is another truck within 2 " - what gives?

would not movement possibly be in any direction due to loss of control?!

thanks

1- Seems the right explanation to me.

2- This is one weird rule and cannot see how or why a wheeled vehicle gets knocked back in a direct line, if it is to simulate loss of control then it should 'bounce?' in any direction, either way the end result is pretty pointless. In our game I had a boy's ATR bounce a 232 heavy A/C into a wood - most strange :?

The wheeled move-back was a part of the system from the first days of Starship Troopers. Back then everything flinched an 1" away whenever it made an armor save, so wheeled vehicles flinched 1D6" away to represent the driver's loss of control. WaW still has a version of the flinch rule whenever a unit takes casualties. The 1D6" move-back says nothing about any other rules, so it would obey all movement rules, including not being able to enter impassable terrain.

That all said, I think it would be fun to see wheeled vehicles move 1D6" in a random direction, ramming anything they contact. I imagine trucks bouncing off the road and smashing into a house, convoys snarling up from fender-benders under fire...

then again just because it a truck whatever takes a hit does not mean it automatically loses control. Rules need some finer polish here I feel.

We raised this topic during game design.
It certainly has a little comic book feel.

But keep in mind that WaW is also the core rulebook for SST, Modern etc. (see the Climb/X trait on P.27)
Matt explained it in the topic with the special move question.

If you do not like the add-on in WW II, just ignore it! It is your game after all...

I still fail to see what narrative effect this rule is trying to bring to the game- why should a vehicel move in such a 'odd' way.

trying to understand the idea behind the design here
thanks
