2300AD Update

Are there any snippets being released between now and general release so we can see something of the layout etc..

Also is the near star list being 'flattened' to be in a more traditional Traveller layout or will we have the older style star maps?

Any chance of submissions guidlelines or playtesting opportunities to assist?

Yours in curiousity,
Steven

Snippets, hear hear! 2300AD is not necessarily traveller. Some talented person could maybe render a true 3D map of stars in digital-only fomat for use on laptops, smartphones or Ipads? There are many extremely nice such atlases based on "true" data already, and I suppose with the limited "false" data set of 2300AD, it would not be impossible? I would find it supercool to use that in a game. Or between games for that matter.

Hi,

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but apparently bang on time for the release of the new 2300AD!

Well done to all involved with bringing this gem back to life. :D

Out of interest, will the new books contain 'new' material or mostly reprinted material?

Don't misunderstand my enquiry, I'll be buying the new stuff anyway. It will give my old 2300AD books a bit of a rest.

Someone did a PDF version of the 2300 star chart (actually it may have been the 2320 version) some time back. I think it might still be found on COTI somewhere.

Also, Astrosynthesis (which is beyond my meager talent to understand) might be a way to construct the 2300 universe. Again, if someone could tinker with it and chart it on that program......

Well I can't speak about the writing, Colin is certainly better qualified to do that.

Well the Deckplans are all new and so are the vehicle illustrations and some of the ships too.

I've done a partial of the Near Star list for my variant 2300AD universe: I've only charted the navigable systems (the ones you can get to within the normal 7.7ly limit), plus I dropped the blatantly fictional stars of the Kafer sphere (which means it ends at Gamma Serpentis, & no Ylii). A number of star names are changed, based on the SIMBAD databse (DM-26 12026 is 36 Ophiuchi, for instance), and I moved the Pentapod home system closer in, as they don't have access to stutterwarp until they met humans. The original system is still there, it's just not highlighted as inhabited, so that change is pretty easy to reverse.

The star locations & information were based on the variant star list from the Near Star list III project on the Foxx Industries site. I don't have anything charted in the systems themselves, but it does have color-coded star routes, spheres of influence, and main-world names where applicable.

It's in Astrosynthesis 3.0.

Greetings everyone. I wish I had stumbled onto Mongoose a lot sooner, I would dearly have loved to participate in the 2300AD project, but it sounds like you are wrapping things up very soon.

I'm a videographer, animator, freelance 3D artist and published author, though my daytime profession is technology focused.

I did the color covers for HARP SF and HARP SFX (and the interior color art & deck plans of this book) that was recently published by the new ICE. I have played 2300AD since it's first printing, and corresponded with Lester Smith on a number of the changes that were incorporated into the 2nd printing. That game had a huge influence on my writing and creative style. If you are interested, here is some of my art on Flikr:

Looking forward to the release of 2300AD!

Starmap looks brilliant but poser art does not capture the 2300AD vibe...or at least not IMHO

Needs something like this...

Two introductory adventures are converted and complete, and off to Mongoose. Biotech Vehicle Design system is complete, and off to Mongoose to be locked down. French Arm adventures is about 70% complete, and should be done by the end of the week. Tools for Frontier Living is next on the block.

How about a biotech airship based on a deep-water squid, complete with tentacles for carrying cargo, and hundreds of flagella to provide propulsion? Or a biotech device that consists of hundreds, or even thousands, of pseudo-insects that can look together in rigid forms in response to biochemical cues? Forms like bridges, ladders, or even chairs?
Biotech smart armor for tanks, that responds by thickening and toughening up areas about to be hit, while weakening all other areas of the vehicle.

Looking very cool. At times like this, I seriously miss the possibility to press a button to "like" stuff on forums! Just don't forget the earplugs!

This sounds like something I would very much like to add into my version of the OTU

Agreed. If nothing else, the book might be interesting as a biotech sourcebook.

I'm sure at least one of Yaskodray's sons must have focused on biotech...
