2300 AD Question on Core Rule book

Hello everyone I have a question in regards to 2300 AD and whether or not the box set will work perfectly fine if you have the 2nd edition core rule book as opposed to the 2022 update core rule book? I've been seeing things saying you need the update book but I want to know for sure if the older book will work just fine? Thanks!
