    Natural 2/Natural 12

Natural 2/Natural 12 is defined on p5 of the rules but then only used in chargen for Survival and Advancement rolls. It is not used elsewhere in the game. I suggest streamlining by removing the definition of Natural 2/ Natural 20 from the rules overview and making the following changes...

    First evening of playtesting

A third possibility is that there is a lack of coherence in a rule set meaning that while sub-parts function individually there is inconsistency across the whole ruleset. The playtesters (players and GM) have to take a holistic view to consider this - more than nit-picking on a rule-by-rule basis.

    Difficulty, Boon/Bane, and DMs

I agree. Also, as insightfully pointed out by Bense and Shawn, one of the features of Bane is that it keeps the range of Effect constant. So, if the pistol does fire and it's a hit then it's as deadly as before.

    Autofire

Yes. I think that, as the name suggests (or I inferred from the author's comments), Spray-and-Pray, is what you see semi-trained fighters doing on the news - or is shown in films to look impressive. Properly trained soldiers use autofire. Spray-and-pray also may be getting into Suppressive...

    My thougths on character generation

Agreed. Anselyn has missed the point - or it's possibly a post about the fallaciousness of appeal to Rule Zero.

    Difficulty, Boon/Bane, and DMs

My reading is that Anselyn was supporting my proposal higher in the thread: ditch DMs - change the difficulty. She's arguing as part of the more general flow of the conversation not just sniping at individual sentences.

Task Checks: recognising expertise - assuming competence

Yes - but a skilled professional rolling effectively for routine (looking for 6+ on the dice) will fail 28% of the time. I don't think that the failure rate of treatment by experienced doctors or nurses is that high. If the task is defined as Routine, then they are rolling for 4+ (again assuming...

    Difficulty, Boon/Bane, and DMs

I agree. Let's avoid complication - but boon/bane is now well defined: "The use of boon/bane allows a referee to adjust the difficulty of a task, without affecting the range of success/failure." I suggest what we want to do is to get rid of is as many DMs as possible and use changes in...

Vacc Suit to Vac Suit. I'm one of the generation of scientists who spent years incorrectly spelling vacuum as vaccuum because of Traveller.

Roll 2D in Order for your Stats

The only problem is that you do need the absolute values of STR, DEX and END for hit points, and, char gen relies on the small increments to characteristics as part of the personal development and benefits charts. Although this does mean that all CHAR +1s are not the same - just as in D&D.

Roll 2D in Order for your Stats

In practice it's the DMs from the characteristics (rather awkwardly called Characteristic Modifiers in the rules, which sounds to me like they should modify characteristics ..,) that are the most important thing in play. When rolling up test characters I found I was checking the total of the...

    Basic Training

Answer: Make it a roll rather than a choice so it's Level 1 but not selected. Also worth noting that switching will fail at some point as the DM of -(number of careers) is there and not switching gives higher rank and thus better benefits so the rules discourage it as written. But also and...
