You are creating a new Traveller and have decided not to be human. What species will your next Traveller be and why?

I've been itching to make a Virushi character for a while now. Wouldn't mind going with an Amindii or a Githiaskio.
And of course, you can never go wrong with playing a Vegan (or as one of my players calls them, "noodly bois")!

I'd like a Hiver just to demonstrate that even familiar aliens are ALIEN. They can think as well as humans, but definitely not like a human.

I'm always the DM, but the two species that appeal to me as a player (as if that'll ever happen :P) are the Virushi and the Ael Yael. I'd probably play an Ael Yael if it actually happened, just because it makes less work for the Ref than trying to adapt adventures to account for the size of a Virushi character.

I put Hiver but really I want to play them all, and as the "ever GM", I do! There's a Virushi who appears multiple times in my games and also those of my friends called George Bernard Shaw, itinerant tourist.

Love Bwaps, who of course work in humid offices with en suite "pond rooms" for breaks and important business meetings. In my Trojan Reaches the main organised crime syndicate is run by Bwaps, the Godfather fat and opulent, his underlings deeply efficient at defrauding, skimming, laundering, smuggling and concealing.

I have been finalizing a thirty-year development of an Aslan offshoot that is highly psionic and relies on biotechnology….and, my Stinging Bwaps (who resemble Red Efts and have bioweapons similar to the bone spitter and combat spikes)

Possibly a Sred* from Spinward Extents.
I'd like to create an all-new bipedal alien species, one based on one of the aliens from Castrobancla. I'd go with the Teilia, a race I've had to rename. Creatures of extraordinary beauty and strangeness. END +1, DEX +1, Psionic, and for them SOC stands for "Social Awareness." They exude a natural pheromone which adds +1 DMs to interactions with humans and humanoids (whether Admin, Deception, Diplomat, Persuade and so on).

In a more "conventional" campaign, I'd love to try a Gl'lu. The combination of adventurous, overly cautious, and indifferent to disaster sounds like it would be fun to portray, and physically they're fun too.

More off-the-wall, my user name comes from a semi-serious idea for a campaign I'd love to try some time, in which players are members of a Girug'kagh film crew producing a series of smug "reality television" in which silly foreigners get their comeuppance for not knowing their place. That is, following a K'kree warband in a region in the process of being "civilized", and gleefully chasing the action to get footage of misfortune as rogue ham-sandwich-munchers get trampled.

Or, a related idea, a general celebration of the "henchman" races. The backdrop being a big conference somewhere in Crucis Margin between Imperial, Solomani, Hiver, and K'kree interests... and the players are a bunch of Bwaps, Dolphins, Ithklur/Gurvin and Girug'kagh rushing around underfoot doing all the "lesser" work and pursuing their own interests in between the demands of the bosses.

It’s always the Aslan for me, male or female. I just dig their whole honor-bound, gender-dominated, clan-oriented brand of alien-ness. They’re my go-to species. 🦁
Aslan are a good balance between being human-accessible in terms of what they can do/how you can play them and having alien qualities, I agree. And as you say, the two sexes are usually played differently too, so that's an immediate added bonus for character-creation.

A Dolberg 'Whale' - aka hursuuun - aka bottom-dwelling giant psychic whale overlords.

As noted in CRB 2016 edition, page 236. It appears to have disappeared from the CRB Update 2022.
