X-Com RPG

Would be well cool an idea loved being able to research stuff to slap the enemy silly...Man i remember starting with a little dosh thinking no way will i win this....

There was an old UK television show called UFO. It was as about as X-com as you could get for a kids sci fi show.
The moonbase interceptors.
the submarine launched interceptor sky diver.
If mongoose made something like that I would buy it just for the models.

It is actually one of the inspirational sources that spawned the games creation by all accounts

really. I did not know that. I just liked the game once your men were up to snuff. In the beginning they were popcorn.
Whoops! there goes another one!

I wrote a space hulkish game for my friends children. It was called Xeno hunters. It was written so the children could take their excess hero clix figures (normals) and hunt aliens. Much like the X Com game. I will see if I can get it onto my website.

Here is the xeno hunters game. We used play money to buy forces.
It was made for a small table. Hero clix normals and plastic bugs. Of some other alien figures.

Sorry about the chart. It didn't transfer well

I was also writing a necromunda like game for adults. Just like the pc game.
You have to capture equipment to get matching funds to build your base and buy equipment. I was working on a world map and air combat rules.

Got back burnered though.

I would cough up money to help grab this title, x-come would be a great game, one person player the earth side and the other can pick one of many races to invade.....
With some design rules players can build their own races as well, battles in space and earths atmosphere, and battles on any part of the planet, or sea floor, cities or alien bases, with rules to build up your tech, a little like gangs of gangs city tuff rules..
ps.. sorry if spelling is bad, its a bad hayfever day...
You know this type of game would have a lot of scope...
Also like the idea of a supers game, their is one out, by west wind... very good
Cheers,back to my hayfever now.....

just sit down and write notes and play it out with friends. Thats what I did.

The more you write and play, the better the game. Just remember the kiss rule. keep it simple, stupid. The stupid part is refering to the writer. Try to keep it managable for playrs and simple rules.

Make an rpg first if you have to then convert it to a tactical game.

I give that a third hands up, and would love mongoose to let us know the chances of it, the idea of fighting alien races on any place of earth or on the moon / mars etc would be great, adding buildings to your base like turf in " gangs " chances to shoot down your friends ufo`s before the game starts, and deploying your troops for the fight, finding tech to build up your army, a alien builder, so each time you start a game you could have a new alien to fight, from daleks or just humans with alien slugs on your back controlling your brain to something like id4 ot big scale tripods, you can use mongoose minis or from any game....

I believe this type of game would have a longer life in ideas etc, then any of the other games so far....
Cheers
Alan Sowle

It is just begging to become a RPG system, prehaps utalising a very miniatures orientated combat system - combining the best of both worlds. The idea could easily include both investigation and research from the RPG side, and then base raids and military action from the miniatures side.

I still play X-Com:UFO and Terror from the Deep (on my PS2 !)

No but they were on the PSX (PS1) and the PS2 is backwards compatable 8)

Actually they're not 100% sure of that, even Sony can't say for sure, but I've not heard of any problems yet.

Games written entirely within Sony's guidelines on the PSX can run under the emulation on the PS2, but some that hit the hardware a bit too directly won't work.

We're about to get the same set of compliance problems with the emulation of PS2 on PS3, but heh ho :(
