X-Com RPG

I'd love to see the two combined and instantly transferable, simply because this expands options. Maybe players would have a set of characters (one agent, one director and one squad leader). The RPG would take care of the agent and directors - and cover the resourcing side and political elements of the game, whilst the squad leader would take care of the wargame elements.

Fantastic. Especially if you are the GM...

Dear mongoose, do let us know if this could be on your list of future ideas, if it would go to print it would be a hit...

Indeed it does ... and well it should.. one of the most classic game series out there in my humble opinion, along with the fallout series.

The entire basis of the X-Com universe is rife with potential adventure and RPG idea.. could it be played in using an existing game...probably but it wouldnt be the same as if you were holding a hardbound rulebook filled with pertinent art and facts and fluff specifically for the X-Com universe.

I'd love to see this done as an RPG.

well done neo and all, lets keep this up to we hear a reply from mongoose, which i must say seem to be bloody nice people, keeping us informed all the time, and the starship troopers products are coming out thick and fast..

Love to play some squad based games with this
Keep it uo guys

ok i dumb

what is x-com ?

A fantastic turn based (later real time with pauses) series of games produced by Microprose back in the day, very much inspired by the likes of the old UFO 70's TV show.

There was RPG elements, you did missions to shoot down alien vessels and research alien technologies, build bases and manufacture itesm, research the corpses and any live specimens caught etc.. in order to find out what the aliens were up to... absolutely fantastic games.

Altar interactive currently produce games based on them though thier first release wasnt fantastic the second one which is out soon looks to be far more like the originals.

Anyway if you want to find out about the original games and even download a version to run on newer systems then you can do so via this site. http://www.xcomufo.com/

Its an entire package of variant games just waiting and begging to be compiled into a series of RPGs and Wargames. Maybe even business simulator game :D

Take a look at

http://www.ufo-extraterrestrials.com

It looks like there`s finally a decent sequel in the works.

.. but an X-Com minis game would be a dream come true!!

looks promising, that in December along with Altar entertainments september release UFO: Aftermath I should have my X-Com computer needs taken care of.. but this still definitely needs to be made into an RPG and/or minis game (though more RPG for my own preferences but both would be cool) for the PnP'ers..

Anyone else notice the ED-209 in the "Dessert Base under attack" screenshot? I think it's funny they've stolen from Robocop...

Though it won't be so funny when it stomps out from round a corner, and the guy on 'opp fire' shoot an incendary missile straight into the Group leader, catching half the squad in the blast area!!!

Keep the dream alive.. show your support for an X-Com RPG and/or miniatures game folks!

Post your ideas, support or thoughts..

Thinking about it, you could go into much more depth with specialist team members by having specialists like in Gangs of MC-1 for both sides...

Another great idea. With the presence of D20 future incorporated into the SRD, this idea could be implemented brilliantly.
