WWII Evolution! Again!

Given this is a game that will have about a platoons worth of infantry, you could release the game with stats for nothing except armoured cars, STUG's and T34's , and be historically accurate.

Unfortunately, people generally want the "13 guys, a sniper and 4 tigers" stuff. If you want fantasy, might as well break out the elves and dwarves, IMO.

Flaw with 28mm scale...Can't represent realistic OOB's and incorporate heavier stuff as well(without being too expensive in €€€ and require LOT bigger game board...)

Maybe Mongoose could go for 15mm or 20mm instead :D Would ease up problem a lot.

Admittedly, there'd be a lot of units, but the idea is to cut down on the similar ones. I'd definitely agree you'd have to have one for each size and/or wheel configuration. Using a 6-wheeler for a 4s and 8s would be lame for anyone who cared at all. Good point tneva82.

weasel_fierce, did you seriously just mention elves and dwarves in our WWII thread!?!?! :o

Now that's funny! And appropriate given the context you put it in. Yeah, most folks would want that. Me, I'd want 10 Panthers or T34s. The rest of the tanks in WWII had major weaknesses of some sort or another. Especially our US Ronsens, er Shermans. (Some of the older set will get the Ronsen Joke).

Indeed. The funny thing is, when the Shermans were first rolled out, during Africa, the Germans thought they were pretty good vehicles. But it didnt stand up to the later developments of armour, being intended as "cavalry", and quickly fell behind.

Uh don't mention those buggers. I'm having nightmare in normandy campaign when those tripple damned panzershrecks are wrecking my shermans like armour were made of paper...

Yeah, this would help for sure, although the rules would have to be adjusted.

I'd recommend 20mm if MGP wants to sell their own models, as right now there are a multitude of 15mm choices and FOW sorta has taken over the 15mm WWII marketshare. Not sure I'd want to go after such a popular game at the moment.

Its better than an M3 at least ;)

Not as good as Churcill VIII with it's 152mm front armour :D (now these are nice tanks. Suprisingly little hyped compared to more well known tanks. Any tank that can survive hit from panther and 95mm gun can't be that bad! Too bad after suspension goes they move slooooooowly in any sort of difficult terrain and are more of bunkers...Heaven forbid if you try to advance to area bombarded by artirelly :D)

Competing with Peter Pig, Old glory, QRF and Battlefront is kind of a steep battle, though if the figures are good, people will buy them.

20mm would be great for skirmish gaming.

Though playing in 15mm, the weapon ranges would seem just fine :)

How's so? Scale down distances and off you go...15mm-20mm would be doable. 6mm(my favourite scale) and smallest distances would be too small(those explosions...) or distances would look silly compared to models.

I don't think the EVO rules are that much size dependant as long as both sides use same size.

in some wys id rather do WW2 as a gangs of mega city/necromunda style game.

hit a notch thats different.

mass WW2 games are a dime a dozen, something a bit more campainy where you follow your units progress through the war would be awsome.

yeah, something like NUTS and Chain Reaction would be cool.

Of course its kind of unlikely that the same 2 squads would fight each other that much, but you can take turns playing the opposition.

Lots of scope and cool things to do on a squad / individual level

Yeah, the distances was all I was referring to.

I was only thinking the other night about a modern ( or ww2 ) type game, where you build up your 4 to 8 guy squad with names and traits and lead them into battles etc and try and keep them alive etc, and the supporting units, like other squads - tanks- air support, would be add on`s with less detailed stats, so you spend your time on this one unit, reloading mags, throwing grenades, medic rules etc, as the war battles around you in less detail.

Abit like gangs or advanced heroquest, but on the open battlefield

Did you ever play "B17" or "Patton's Best" from Avalon Hill? A similar idea (albeit in an air and armour environment respectively) and immensely good fun - oh the pain when my ace ball gunner was killed on his 25th mission!!!

With 4 to 8 guy squad realisticly all you could hope in form of armoured support would be something like armoured car or very light tank...

But heavy tank...Why is he there just with one squad?

And air support? Just for one squad? When there's big war going around with more critical objectives needed?

In NUTS from Two hour wargames, you have your own squad, but you may end up fighting along side other friendly units, as part of a platoon or even company, with a tank showing up possibly etc.

But yeah, the amount of tanks people put on games tables is sheer fantasy

What could be done is make up Army Packs based on Theater and/or Army. You culd do 20-50 Cards a Pack like Warmachine does. Just basic Cards with all the stats on them, you suply the Minis. These could be produced cheeply and a lot of A&A: Minis players I know would love them.
