Women's Guide to RPGs

One does have Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress out there...but that is so heavily skewed toward D&D...there must be women who play Traveller, Call of the Cthulhu, Cyberrun and a whole host of other games...absolutely neccessarily would be an appendix or chapter in explaining RPGs to your significant other. The biggest problem we guys have is explaining what we are doing those weekend nights...without sounding completely daft.

May I suggest:

Tongue in cheek, non Politically Correct, but very funny. Out of print so you'd have to buy the pdf like as not, though I got lucky and found a printed copy.

Other than that you already have confessions of a P/T Sorceress which is the other book I'd suggest.

explaining RPGs to your significant other

This line of debate does rather assume your "significant other" is a woman. I know several female RPG players who have the same issues explaining their hobbies to their male SOs :)

Alternatively, you get lucky, find someone who is into RPGs and marry them. Pity the genes aren't transmissable, although I am trying to get my daughter into Paranoia.

That's what I did!

Several friends of ours have gone the slower route to getting new players by growing their own too. Takes a while, but seems to work out.

Oh, I am certain that it goes both ways across the gender divide. However, if you have read Confessions, as I have, does a very good job at explaining RPGs in a good chicklit fashion.

All too often, when I try to explain something, I get bogged down in technical explaination and not rely upon intuition. Now, I have had a few (very, very few) girlfriends who would get the explaination right off the bat. Unfortunately or fortunately, I did not marry one of those girls. Therefore, here I am left trying to explain something that works best if you actually engage in...and there is the barrier to participation through non understanding.

Yes, I have picked up the Slayer's guide...but that will get me further from my proposal than closer...
