Will there be a BF:EVO Boxed Game??

Mongoose
Have mongoose put any information about any kind of boxed supplement for this system, with the rules and maybe two small forces thrown in??

Is there anything in the pipline for two release versions, 1) with USMC and MEA. 2)EFTF and PLA for example.

Cheers

there's been no talk of one, but I assume if there's enough demand they'll at least think about it. Seems to go against the stated philosophy of the game though.

the boxed game idea is great in theory, but to be honest can make a game a little stagnant for new players.

the pick upi the boxes of what you whant tends towork better, im sure in future promotions may come up of buy 4of these and get the rule book free for example, but for the sort of people who play tend to play this game and hate having to own stuff there never use much i think MGP has hit the market just right.

I think i remember reading on planet mongoose about box sets being really quite expensive to produce. If it brings nothing new to the table i can't see areason to do it. Also if you were going to do it i would have thought now is a bit late. Army boxes would be fun perhaps.

As I recall they also have a problem that boxed sets won't be stocked in book stores, wheras books will be.

all good points and i can see why they wouldn't bring such a boxed set out

but it would be nice if you could buy a "company" or "patrol force", or whatever

cheers anyway for shedding light on the subject

Pity though. If there's one thing that helps to sell games it's well designed starter box...Those things are darn good at luring in new players.

Hi guys,

Nothing like this is planned at this time.

We will be looking at putting together 'platoon' or 'army' box sets with complete forces, once we have a few more waves out.

We _have_ also considered a slightly different game based on the BF Evo range, set around spec ops (inspired by the SAS and Force Recon teams in wave 3, and way too much playing Rainbow 6 & Ghost Recon). Nothing has been started on this yet in terms of rules, and there are many hurdles to jump on that side alone. However, this woulds likely be a complete box set - if it ever sees the light of day. . .

Sounds intresting, will this be done a man basis rather than a squad basis?

Cogs start to whirr, things start clicking and crunching as I get excited by the possibilities......

bee cool if it was sorta necromunda/GOMC1 style ie your squad improves from game to game.

I was thinking something along the lines of Kill Teams, but Necromunda would be cool, or Legends of the old West (which is a great fun game as you get cowboys in it :D )

Check out my own evo-s rules, its more man to man then squad to squad, i have added ammo rules, and a new suppression idea, as well as a shooting skill as well..
Little along the lines of the sst adventure game.....
I have also ready done ghost recon, and a little work on stargate also
All on the yahoo mongoose monds website

Enjoy

It also uses GW's appalling LOTR rules.

actualy the LOTR rules are very good, much better id say than 40k rules sytem, thing is people keep putting it down rather than giving it a good try, alot have left GW as LOTR made them realise that there are better systems out there than the warhammer dirivitaves, all much thanks to LOTR

no way is LOTR a better rule set than Warhammer! LOTR is far too simple, fight value only matters if you roll the same number?

Mass combat is hideous to work out.

the LOTR models are fantastic though

games with cowboys are cool! I once played a cool skirmish game with experience and campaign play set around the Border reivers of the 16th-17th centuries. Cattle raiding is awesome! :D

If you have played Legends of the Old West, using the LOtR rules then you know that in LOTOW is purely a skirmish game, there is no mass combat in the game which is why it works :)

Afterall why would you be doing mass skirmish using the "new" system? Thats what BF:Evo is about.

I just like the idea of taking a couple of squads of my SAS (when I get them) and having them try and infiltrate my mates USMC base to rescue some hostages, or kidnap a general.

The Warhammer Historical line, of which LOTOW is part, is very well regarded amongst the wider wargaming community, Warhammer Ancient Battles especially.

Warhammer Ancient Battles is a great game

I don't think Cordas understood me, LOTR isn't a good battle game (although that's what it tries to be) I have no idea what LOTOW is like

Well gee. It is not SUPPOSED to be mass combat game...So don't blame rule system for trying to use it for something it's not planned to...

How you think BF:evo would cope if I would use it with 500+ infantry per side and roughly 200 armoured vechiles in total?
