Will the Solomani Rim have Mega Freighters

Mongoose
One of the best things in any Traveller version was An evil conspiracy version of Traveller suppliment called "Far Trader" and it trade system show how much an economic powerhouse the Solomani Rim is (and I wished it was ported across to MGT, oh well....)

Will the Solomani Race book or Sector book have details of any Megafreighters for MGT? Given that when you do the sums, 2000dt freighters will not cut the mustard, I am hoping for stats of some Megafreighters for my game.

Thanks and regards

There's the 100,000 ton superfreighter in High Guard.

I think that they want bigger...

Build it!

A 1Mton superfreighter is perfectly within the capability of desiging using HG. I would include a LOT of expert programs to keep the crew size down, but that would be setting/culturally specific.

Design and submit it to Matt and he might even pay you for it!

I think it was Rim of Fire for GURPS Traveller had some examaples of bigger Freighters. I was not a big fan of those rules but they did give me some good ideas on how to do stuff.

Been working the figures via HG,(which could do with a rewrite for clarity) and the crew numbers will be astronomical.

Is there a formula for civilian capital ships?

You could always assume that civilian ships don't travel with the full normal crew complement.

Take the numbers you need on page 67, then turn to page 69. Adjust the crew numbers to something you want.
Battle strength is 91 to 120% of the numbers on page 67.
Full strength is 76 to 90%.
Weakened is 51-75%.

Make your civilian vessels all have a "weakened" level of crew. Any lower, and penalties start to get applied. Now your civilian ships have roughly half the crew of their military counterparts.

If you look at the example ships in High Guard, all of the military ships have Overstrength crew, while the superfreighter (the only civilian capital ship there) has a crew strength of Weakened.

I always used Civilian ships as Weakened Crews (don't get the -1, but keep the crew smaller).

I also use a LOT of expert programs; you may even have to add another computer to handle them all.

AND, I remove the Armour, Fuel and Cargo space from the size requirements before calculating service crew. That one change makes a HUGE difference in crew sizes.
