Why?

MGP have had a look at the rules of SST, and their wish to do a modern war game and have come up with a new version of the old SST rules that will work in both systems (and potentaily others) with a minimal amount of changes.

So they have decided to release Evo, at the same time they have also taken the decision to create a range of pre-painted and pre-assembled models for those of us who are to lazy and or to inept (myself to both) to paint figures.

So, will the old rules still be available and become supported?
I am not very interested in switching completely to a prepainted and preassembled game. Will there still be releases for the ORIGINAL SST?
I would also be interested in the forth but if I have to buy the preassembled minis, the I would not do so. I don't like to become forced to buy stuff I am not interested in.
The same thing with the rules. I really hope the SST:Evo Rules will include the SST rules for SEVERAL possible shoot reactions during a turn, because the "out of ammo" rules were just great. You can really feel the panic of your MI Troopers, whe the bugs close and the MI runs out of ammo. Very great.
Maximum ne move reaction, but as much shoot reactions as you want unless you're out of amoo. It takes much more time to run away then to pull the trigger several times(or just keep it pulled).
The other thing: Why using that silly rule for multihit minis(Tanker Bug)"ignore the first 3 hits"?? Four Hitpoints. That's it. Why change good working rules???

Sounds like you were into the same kinda things about SST V1 as I was Benwick... Unfortuantly alll that firing, reaction, ammo stuff has been removed from the game.
Now there is only Evo.
I personally had no real problems with the rules, but I've read alot of muddled rulesets (ShadowRun DMZ stands out...), so Im not gonna say the change is a bad thing particualrly, but it does change the tone of the game.

Not sure entirely about that, certainly they have dropped multipul reactions and out of ammo from the basic game, and maybe from BF:Evo, but Matt has said that SSt:Evo will use the same basics but it will be a different game, so who knows.

As far as I am aware the cards form the new units will be available seperate from the box's so you can use your old models and you can always convert / scratch build your own versions of new models. However I very much doubt MGP will be bringing out unassembled / unpainted versions of the new models, I just don't think it would make busniess sense.

The new rules are going to be only an improvement. After playing them, then the old ones I realised just how much different (for the good) they are. Seriously, wait and see.

I too liked the ammo rules, reactions etc. Good to here reasurance from Rob.

Shadowrun DMZ. Heh, still have that on my gaming shelf - although I haven't played since a year after it came out. Wasn't too bad, as far as I remember. (Didn't move beyond 2e with Shadowrun).

Before I drift too far off topic I'll say I'd like to see more system hints and 'where's it going' notes for SST.

Cheers
Mark

Having played more than a few games of Evo (both SST and BF) I really like the Evo rules, yeah I miss the multipul reactions (and the ammo rules that came with that) but I also love the fact that units react to being shot at.... The introduction of Suppression has also had a huge effect and is great.

I would say try playing Evo, its not a huge step away from the old version and the changes are IMHO an improvement. (Just be aware that how tunneling works in the old game is apparently closer to how it works in the preview Evo game that is available now)
