Why use pornography?

To answer Mythos' question I don't know how much else we can say on this topic, part of the reason why the dicussion drifted before to talking about crap game stores.

And Mongoose Old Bear, I tend to be more of a hands on person myself so yeah I'm not real interested in talking about it much.

Haha! I've heard that one before... :D

I decided to take a look at the previews considering the log thread here...

You know what I thought about the girl on the border?
If i was going to buy this book, the border bugs me because she is distractingly ugly. :)
anyway, you can return to your regular flaming... :)

that is all

You do realise that Doctor Spock was a child-care expert from Chicago?

Or were you thinking of Mister Spock, the scientific character from Star Trek? :)

Developmental Psychologist and pretty good one as well.... though I just browsed in due to the threads name.

And why not use pornography... oh for the art... ops...

The standards that people find acceptable are a funny thing. For example, we can drop bombs on people but we arn't allowed to scribble profain language on the bombs...... Makes no sense to me, but that's life I guess.

I suspect that most people who object are American. Nakedness is natural and nothing to be ashamed of. And if you treat it as such, it soon loses most of its sexual context.

One more thing: sex=good, violence=bad

though that may be a minority opinion

to some of us Americans, the idea of a nude breast=pornography is ludicrous...unfortunately the SuperBowl has all the nutters out.
Who cares if my 12 year old son sees a tit on tv? I'd prefer that too two hours of violence without repercussions.

sorry, but you brits loaded off your puritanical nitwits on the colonies, and we've been suffering the bastards ever since, this is YOUR fault.

that's not a bad point, actually.

but the hubub is over the exposure of the breast. not the simulated groping/sex/bumpngrind that has been part and parcel of superbowl halftime shows as well as their cheerleaders forever.

so i dont think it's as valid a criticism as you might say.

Hrmm, funny, the NFL had problems with the whole thing, including the poncho flag. I also know many people who had a problem when the top was pulled off for the reason I stated. But, oh well.....

Ghoti, I'm afraid I too don't quite understand your objection (this isn't flamebait, mind you....). Consider the following: you stated explicitly that you enjoyed the Conan movies, which portrayed not only sexual intercourse and nudity, but an orgy scene (inside Doom's Mountain of Power) and yet have a problem with nudity in the rulebook...in all honesty that seems a bit inconsistent. I respect your right to have your opinion, but in my opinion, your logic is spurious at best.

I find it interesting that you are objecting to an artist's rendition of breasts but the sorcery feats which increase the efficiency of human sacrifice aren't mentioned in your post at all. (Note: I LOVE the sorcery system in Conan...see my post on wanting to hurry the publication date for Scrolls of Skelos!) I find this very curious indeed.

The game is meant to emulate the sword and sorcery genre, and thus must include certain elements if it wishes to succeed in accomplishing that. I believe Mongoose scored a real victory with Conan the RPG.

I'd also like to point out that Conan himself often isn't wearing very much in the stories.

As I said, you are welcome to your opinion, but I still fail to understand your logical support of said opinon. I am sorry that you will be missing out on gaming with the Conan RPG...I and my gaming group are already having a blast with the system.

The nudity didn't really bother me, except my nine year old who just started playing D&D was very interested in looking through the book and perhaps playing a Barbarian (he has seen the TV edited version of the movie) in Conan the RPG. A picture every now and again would have been tolerable, but every other page is a bit much, so I've had to ask him not to flip through it.

Alot of people would say that the violence in any RPG is more of an issue than the sight of the female form. However, I run a very violence muted game for him that is centered around heroism and solving problems with his head more than his axe...
