Why use pornography?

I suppose that the Weird Tales covers and interior illustrations would keep ghoti from buying the magazines. That was in the 20's and 30's for christsakes.

If a washed out breast, derived from the best Conan image ever, offends you enough to stop you from buying the greatest rpg to date (I was a playtester), then perhaps REH's Conan is real for you.

BTW, I enjoyed the first movie also, but it was NOT Conan. It was a diservice to REH's character.

I checked out the preview and have to say that I saw nothing that was offensive. Matter of fact it looks like it will be a very nice book when it come out. ::shrug:: Each to his own I guess.

Personally I love the art style and the information provided looks fantastic! Really seems to capture the feel of the stories! To sound like a slavering fanboy -- This game looks like it is going to ROCK!!

Where is mongoose in all of this? Are they afraid to respond?

I imagine they are stupefied by the cloistered attitude you show. You aren't a monk by any chance are you?

And if I was a monk how would that invalidate my opinion?

Has nothing to do with a cloistered attitude, it has to do with the fact that I might wish to read this book and have it open around those that would be offended by it.

This choice of border, which by the way has nothing to do with content, it is nothing but a border, is just the same thing that is going on with the "Book of Erotic Fantasy", its a joke and gives RPG's a bad name for no reason.

It is not integral to the story or the game.

In a previous instalment of this soap opera...
"No, but it was all in context, part of the story, as it is in the book and comics"- Ghoti
Surely it's my fault, but I can't understand how such a thing as eroticism (I can assure you a half seen breast is *NOT* pornography :P) is integral and "in context" in the 'Conanesque' genre (novels, movies, comics) and "It is not integral to the story or the game" of a game based on these same novels, movies...
It's simpler: If you don't like the book don't buy it. My vote is that I prefer a game book which graphic design is 'in line' with the genre it is about.

I had believed that this was put to rest years ago with the roleplaying will make you take your or anothers life debate.Mongoose are taking a pulp hero and turning it into a brilliant game but as conan didnt wear a jumper or shirt often nor did most of the women he hung around.Breasts do not make a mad sex feind in fact research shows that hiding such things causes problems in later life ie the amount of abuse in covered cultures against groups such as african tribes were everything was on show.

OK, this is a civilized flame for an uncivilized topic.

It's funny how many people find murder, necrophilia, slavery, and robbery OK for fantasy games, but the human form nude? Gah! It will corrupt us all. How about bare-chested men? Is that ok? What about ducks without pants and naked chihuahuas? What about breast-feeding babies? Do you ask women to go to dirty toilet stalls to feed their babies too? Oh, it hurts my eyes!

OK, so you're in support of censorship, exhibit a lack of appreciation of art, completly are not prepared for the Conan genre, and make an overly simplistic attempt at pressuring Mongoose into fitting your view of a puritan-world, but I commend you for staring and I'm sure that any woman who walked by you would also appreciate such immaturity with a good scowl.

If you really can't stand looking at a bare nipple (e'gads!) take a freaking marker and ink in a bra or BURKA if that's more your style. http://www.tribalmax.com/burka.html

Email me a PO box address and I'll send you a Sharpie..but don't take the cap off..it might reveal something that protrudes from the body of the pen.

You're going to miss out on a great product, obviously, and bring up a point that might be adequate for a church meeting, but really guy! Think before you speak!

ok guys, this is Paul again. When I said the nudity is implied what I meant is that without the pictures it can only be seen in the minds eye, thus implied.Sorry if I appear to have thrown a lifeline in the past to our slightly less liberal minded posters.

Perhaps had you read any of the original stories with the Frazetta covers you might understand...

Not to nit pick too much, but the original Conan stories were in Weird Tales magazine, which did NOT feature Frazetta covers.

If you look at the old covers of the magazines (and Conan and female friends were often the feature cover illustration of those issues) you will find a lot of semi-nudity, women in chains, and that sort of thing. Pretty racy stuff for the time, I'm sure, and makes some of the Mongoose artwork look pretty tame.

Is there any way I can request MORE pornography in the Conan RPG? Naked ladies is all well and good, but hey, how about lots of naked ladies together!

The centrefold could be Belit and Valeria "wrestling" each other while Conan sits in the background, grinning from ear to ear.

While I tend to be rather conservative on these issues, I don't agree with the complaint of nudity in these books.

The original stories were about women and swords. There was a lot of nudity in the original art pieces and the original writing. If someone would be offended by such works, then they would not likely be interested in a Conan product of any sort.

The rpg of a license needs to stay true to the license.

It is amusing to be on this side of the issue since I tend to be on the other side with regards to Mongoose's books. I find that there is a gratuitous amount of nudity.

Is there something "wrong" with nudity? No, of course not, but as with everything- it should have its place. I am not in this hobby for titillation. I can go buy a porn if that is what I want.

It is not a matter of "calling for censorship" or suggesting that reasoning comes from religous beliefs. It is common sense.

Anyone who questions the use of nudity in the original Conan material may want to check out an article currently on the home page of conan.com.
Click on the article in the lower left corner, it is a collection of excerpts from REH's letters. As you scroll down you will see a cover from the Weird Tales issue that has "Red Nails" in it. The cover has 4 topless women on it. While the placement of arms and props prevents the reader from seeing any "improper" bits of skin, it takes no imagination to know that these women are almost naked.
Then remember that this magazine was intended for readers between the ages of 12 to 18.

as per normal mythos you find the most wonderful stuff think half of my favourite links were pointed out by you.when do you find time to sleep or use the bathroom  thanks again and keep passing on the links

Sleep is for the weak. As to the use of the bathroom, there are somethings too vile and horrific, even for the internet.

sort of guessed that old boy  dont know why but havent had any problems yet with the log,in that even mongoose staff seem to be stumped by
