Why Piracy fails in traveller......

Are you sure this is the right ship Jakeem?

Yeah, yeah - that's the one the Frenchman told me!

And we're all gonna be on TV?

Yep - he guaranteed it...

There would be a rather simple rule for inexperienced pirates:
"If it is grey and has a number painted at the bow: No !" :D

But then civilian ships would start doing that...

Simple Pirate nursery rhyme:

"White or yellow, rob the fellow, *
Guns on Back...run like frak"

* Hull colors.

Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, Idiots Abroad?
So now the question is, who has the Football?

 ...Yes, yes indeed :"Red and Yellow kill a fellow, black and white, up all night" By way of coral and King snakes .

I am amazed at that getting spotted. Nay, speechless, in a verbose sort of way.

ps: the loch ness monster, had it for a while......

From what I did read in another article, written by a journalist on the
French frigate Nivose, the captain of the frigate knew about the pre-
sence of pirates in the area and did his best to trick them into belie-
ving that they were chasing a freighter, for example by "fleeing" in the
direction of the setting sun to prevent the pirates from recognizing his
ship, and then turning around and attacking them when he was sure
that he had drawn them far enough out to sea to make an escape im-
possible.

It seems that inexperienced pirates met a clever tactician ...

Wow, they made a big mistake chasing Honor Harrington, That always ends in disaster.

A frigate called 'Nivose' is probably a Republic of Haven ship, actually. :)

It's one of the Havenite ships taken during the escape from Cerberus III.

Of course, the pirates themselves aren't much in the way of Havenites. More along the lines of Masadans.

I think that the pirates are more VERY POOR than fanatical. Desperate starving people subjected to hoplessly corrupt leadership tend to take radical actions to survive. From what I have read, most hostages were treated quite well. No televised beheadings like more 'emotional' organizations.

Silasians, actually. Residents of a poor, unstable region who've resorted to using their circumstances as an excuse to take other people's property. If they have even that much justification - many of the pirates in the Confederacy were opportunists from elsewhere... just as some of the Somali pirates may well be, if we could actually trace who they really are...

Either that or he ran away. Someone pointed out that this might not look very good in the next day's newspaper. So, after having sent the helicopter to check that the pirates had nothing bigger than an AK47, the frigate turned round and attacked.

When you're swimming in the creek
And an eel bites your cheek
That's ... A moray!

Haven't read FFFB for years!

*wanders off, laughing hysterically*

From two speedboats ? In a Frigate ? ....Not likely.....oh wait. Smiley.

Still, if he was that worried, the deck gun alone I saw outranges an RPG-7, so the obvious response would be to .......well, you know. BOOM.

He probably was thinking newspapers. He wanted a capture.

You see, there was this passenger on board of the frigate Nivose. A guy
named David Dieudonne who writes a lot of stuff. For example for Agen-
ce France-Press ...

Just as an aside, you do realize that the French are militarily the most successful European (and we can count the states in there, too, who after all owe their nation to French military might) nation? England / Britain is number two slot, for all the endless bragging that goes on here.

Nonsense about French running away gets old, especially from people who wouldn't have their nation without them. ;¬)

Weeeeeelllllll.......if you'll note, the poster of the comment has a UK address, although one could make the argument that y'all wouldn't have your nation without them, either..;) .

(If it was a French joke, which I totally missed. )

I recently had a revelation that the modern world as we know would have turned out very different if the ENglish and the French had gotten along a little bit better.

I also think the English failed to learn a couple of valuable lessons through the history of Europe and later the Americas:

1) The Scots didn't really like the English much.(And for IMHO good reason, but it's all historical now, just don't expect Scots to support the English national team if they qualify and we don't, Trinidad & Tobago for the win)
2) No matter who the English went up against, it seems the French were more than willing to offer to team up with them to trounce the ENglish or at least try to. (The Auld Alliance, America, etc.)

Please don't take any of the above TOO seriously, they are just random musings of mine, I live in England even though I'm Scottish, and most of them are pretty decent

Chef

Which part, Chef? I'm guessing about the USA, so very briefly:

The French fought the British across North America, hence the whole situation in Canada. When the colonies decided to rebel it was French support which allowed the 'Americans' to stand the way they did and it was French troops which essentially won some important battles, indeed when the final surrender came it was the French to whom the British offered their surrender. The French, very gallantly, refused and demanded that the British surrender to the 'Americans', then they all sat down for dinner, the French and British, that is, the yanks couldn't understand how enemies could have dinner with each other.

Later, US Patriots who remembered the debt fought for the French in World War I as L'Escadrille de Lafayette or "The Lafayette Squadron".
