Why are beams a problem?

I think beams are ok as they stand, even though i miss quite a lot.
I also think its funny that in all the beam threads people are complaining that beams are too random.....HELLO, its a game system based on DICE rolling, how can it not be random.
Unless your beam dice are all loaded  (cough!,Star_Lynx!,cough! )

they not loaded, I'm just blessed by the Beam God, but sometimes my beams do fail me, unfortunately not when it is a mag gun and its pointed at one of Funbeast's ships

Just adding my voice to the crowd that think that beams are OK as they are at the moment.

Strategy and tactics are still there, except it's about maximising the number of times you can fire your beams (hoping for the lucky wild hit) while manoeuvring to minimise the number of beam shots your enemy gets.

I know others don't like the randomness, I'm just hoping that the official rules don't shift in their favor because I prefer this version.

I was thinking that too. I ignored all the threads about the beam dice because the argument made no sense. By definition a game based on dice IS purely random. That is the whole point of dice.

Personally I think the 2e system is better than the 1e. It does seem like it produces huge hits followed by huge misses but that is the nature of the dice and the fact that people seem to remember the extremes, like when the vorlon quad beam misses killing a vorchan or the ka'toc slices an omega in two with a mega hit, rather than all of the perfectly average hits that normally occur.

...Besides, even if it Were almost all either big hits or total misses, it would make sense, given what we see on the show...

The beam either slices its target in half (or cores it on a longitudinal hot) or doesn't hit at all (or just grazes)...

I like it (even though it means that I will continue to miss more often than not. Thank God for Dodge)
