So, I have Brakiri that I am painting up at the moment, but fancy a different race.

Now, I fancy something different, and am stuck between the options in the poll.

Which is best suited as an additional/different race? and how do they fair in 2nd edition for those that have it?

( I am building a Shadows fleet, but thats just for fun etc)

I'm leaning towards ISA mostly, as they seem the opposite to Brakiri, but wasn't sure how they faired in 2nd edition.

There good in 2nd ed (ISA) new ships and a strong basis - them the Drakh or the Gaim would be very different to the Brakiri?
:D

Can you use League of Non-Aligned Worlds in the ISA fleet still? will be an easy way to bulk out an ISA fleet, by dropping in a Brakiri ship or two.

I´d say give the pak´ma´ra a try! :D

First, you can use some of your brakiri miniatures, making it easier to get the fleet started. Then, you can use a nice mix of miniatures from other fleets, including the gorgeous Hurr gunship. Finally, you can combine your fleets for a truly huge mixed league fleet.

Oh, and they have tentacles in their faces, which is an often overlooked, but nonetheless important point I say!

Good for the pak'ma'ra ladies, but not so good for space combat.

You don´t know that until you have seen it happen! :D

pak'ma'ra! pak'ma'ra!

Plasma web makes them moderately horrific now.
Especially against massed lighter vessels.

I haven't seen the full version of the rules yet (will be plotting the purchase of the 2e rules with friends tonight) but the possibility of a torpedo web is rather scary - AP, Triple Damage energy mine at 25" range, with 1 attack dice for every patrol-level pakhawk firing.

I forsee disgusting things being done to the minbari (and that's before you start eating the bits left over...)

You could go with Vree if you want more or less the antithesis of Brakir: Fragile highly maneuverable ships that rely entirely on avoiding being shot to survive compared to long range heavily armed slugging ships that are stupidly tough :P

Again thats based on 1st ed as I dont have my 2nd ed books yet. However I would suspect that the Vree and Brakkiri will still be more or less the same type of play afterwards!

Consider this a vote for the glorious Centauri Republic! The Centauri make a nice opponent fleet for your Brakiri to make demo games more attractive - you can re-fight the (very limited) on-screen confrontation between Centauri and Brakiri forces - and they play differently enough to be interesting. More fragile ships but rare slow-loading weapons, mostly shorter-ranged pulse weapons and nice fighters. Visually they're very different so make a nice contrast for display and demo games.

Also, they're cool. 8)

i find vree a good second fleet, need a bit more thought than brakiri IMO

But u cant get much more "new fleet" than a brand new fleet..... the gaim get my vote

My Pak Fleet will be led by Dr Zoidberg

I'd say start another League fleet. you'll wind up with a larger, more varied, more versatile force in the end with a combined league fleet.

If you want something that is different and fares spectacularly well in 2nd Edition, try the new Centauri. The Vorchan is a nice painted model, and the Vorchan/Demos might be the new Prefect.

On the fleet of completely different, Davesaint reasonably convinced me that the Vree may be the most brutal race in the game right now, and I have a hard time disagreeing. The Xonn, Xill, and Xeel are abominations, and they could compliment Kalivas very very well.

I voted ISA as I think they will fly very different from what you used to. Highly maneuverable, readily available heavy beam, excellent fighter support (though I think that has changed for the brakiri in 2ed). The mix of ship types is good in 2ed and the brakiri can be used to fill holes using the allied rule.

That said the Vree are very tough at the moment...mainly due to the Xeel being stupidly over gunned at skirmish. Six good attack dice in moderate range and four 7 AD fighters? - sigh -
