Which Fleet?

Oh, I would love to see the Omega Octant (and Lesser Magellanic Cloud and Triangulum Galaxy) show up in ACtA:SF; but yeah, I'm trying to curb my own enthusiasm for such settings here until (or unless) the time is ever ripe for them.

That said, the Andromedans do also show up in Omega and the LMC; and you can collect certain Starline 2500 models to represent some of the ships from the Federal Republic of Aurora if you wanted to use them in SFB (or with the playtest rules for FC).

You cna def run their fleet in a variety of ways - plus they get loads of Command ships which helps :)

The ship damage scores across fleets are not especially different - so not sure there is one for what you are looking for .

Federation are desperate to keep your ship in front of of them so they can demolish it with photons.

just got my rulebook Saturday (thanks Mongoose for mailing it out first despite it being part of a larger order), and from what I read, multiple command ships do not contribute to a fleet's Init bonus. Therefore if you have three ships with Command +1, your bonus to initiative from the Command trait will still only be 1. So, it's almost like the Romulans are paying in points for something that only becomes beneficial when other command ships are crippled or destroyed.

Thats a glass half-empty way of looking at it.

I prefer to see it as being able to retain that juicy +1 bonus better and not having a single ship with a SHOOT ME sign on it.

"SHOOT ME" sign, that work both ways.

Many of us can't get the rulebook. It's only starting to show up in US stores.

That is our problem as well. That's why my friends and I are prying so much about the fleets so we know which ones to pick up (and put back the cash for) when our local distributor gets the book and models in. Are the Tholians just for scenarios or are they designed to be their own fleet? Saw them in the preview of the rulebook pdf and they seem neat yet only three ships I hear.

The Tholians are indeed their own fleet. From what I understand, SF1 only introduces Tholians and SF2 will fill out the fleet considerably. At some point the Neo-Tholians should show up in ACTASF who will then add some serious muscle to the Tholian fleet.

In the Alpha Octant, the local empire with the biggest and bulkiest hulls per ship class is the Inter-Stellar Concordium; their Star Cruiser is larger (and more expensive) than those of the "insane empires" they set out to pacify.
I think I mentioned this in another topic, but one must remember that the ISC didn't join into the frey until very late in the General War. Ergo, their "heavy cruiser" is actually equal to most other empires' "heavy battlecruiser". If one strips away all the upgrades to the final Star Cruiser, it comes out about equal to all the other pre-war CAs out there.

We are the I.S.C.

We come to bring peace to the waring barbarians of the Alpha region.

We are here to stop the fighting and so will fight you all in order to stop you fighting

Hey we don't understand it either

But in FC, the pre-refit versions of the ISC fleet don't exist; you simply get the Pacification-era hulls from the outset.

(When the Middle Years Ship Cards were being selected for Briefing #2, I argued for the unrefitted ISC fleet to be added there; the FC take on the Middle Years already gives the likes of the Romulans a "free pass", skipping the sublight fleet and going straight to the Smarba-era WEs and KRs. However, it was turned down partly on the grounds that, even if you let the early ISC fight other MY fleets, they were said to still be too powerful in comparison.)

So, if you want to cover any Main Era conflicts in FC (to include the consolidation of the Concordium's western borders as described in the Gathering Winds scenario from F&E ISC War, plus the various clashes along this front in the run-up to the Pacification itself; and, indeed, of the latter battles against the Andromedans through Operation Unity) you use the standard Ship Cards; just as the Gorn and Romulan fleets in the same setting use the refitted versions in ACtA:SF already.
