What's up with Traveller?

[side note] - Formatting single column for pdf & ebooks would be great. Unlike a paper version, one can't just flick your eyes to the top of page but must scroll.

Just a thought...

One can if you put the whole page on the screen at one time...

But I can see where a single column might work better for some.

For large screens that works. For most tablets/readers it means the font size is REALLY small. Even for medium & smaller laptops it is too small. Works great with desktops using portrait displays...

Just saying it is possible to do so.

I'm getting back into writing for Traveller. We released our first d66 lists in over a year last month. Expect more from Jon Brazer Enterprises soon. And by more, I don't mean just d66 lists.

I wish the Hiver and K'Kree books would be pushed to the top of the list.

I'm curious. Is this level of anticipation due to these two Major races being late to the party in nearly every other edition? Are you looking for new places and flavors of adventure? Academic interest as a setting scholar?

For me in general, Mongoose does re-boots of the Traveller aliens and settings rather than just copying/pasting what's been published already for previous versions. In my opinion, the Mongoose re-boot material is way better and far more interesting to role-play in. I'm guessing these two races will be more approachable for role-play for players and referees. Marc Miller and Loren Wiseman were not able to accomplish this, or they just didn't care to.

To be fair to Marc and Loren, "high role playing" was a scarce beast in the early 80s, especially in print. By the time of the CT Alien Modules (83 on) they obviously recognized that more than a couple short pages was needed, but good characterization of aliens is *hard* to write. Look at how many have tried and failed with a much simpler race, the Aslan, who descend into simple tropes for lack of properly conveyed uniqueness.

It takes work to see the Hivers as more than mustache twirling wannabee villains minus the mustache and often minus the villainy. Making the K'kree playable for both players and referees has a few more tools now than in 84 (think "Troupe style play") but they are still so herd-minded that typical players will be constantly tripping over even that one difference.

Like I said with the Droyne, I'm willing to wait if the results are better.

The World Builder's Handbook (title may change)
Book 1: Mercenary Second Edition

These products are eagerly awaited, not that bothered about the others tbh. If merc has a good large battle resolution system and a system for resolving vehicle/air conflicts and a neat way to incorporate the present vehicle design system this could be a brilliant addition to the Traveller line and been sometime I have wanted to buy for Traveller for many years. I did resolve this to some degree myself for CT but it was never very well planned.

Same for the World Builders Handbook - if this is something that will bring MgT more into line with the detail of solar system design of CT Scouts Book 6 whilst adding more flavour to worlds and incorporating exciting fauna and flora etc again this is something that has largely been missing even from Classic Traveller.

When you consider that both of these books will open up massive new avenues of gaming for the franchise they could be superb sellers, but I hope they are seeing the appropriate degree of time and love spent on them.

But still no adventures/scenarios? Probably the thing MgT needs most is some solid, fun, self-contained adventures that are simple in rules but limitless in gaming possibilities ... CT adventures have yet to be beaten by anything I have seen for MgT as yet.
