My good old Pharos IV water world colony setting, now almost 80 game-
time years old, and still doing quite well ... :D

I agree, given only one vote I went with OTU. But in my plans I like OTU and Homebrew both.

What I will probably run is a homebrew, making use of whatever material I get from any source.

What I'm excited about, however, are all the alternative settings - particularly the 2000AD titles. These were written in about the same era as original Traveller (late 70s/early 80s) and so capture some of the spirit of the game in an indirect way. Moreover, they ought to push the boundries a little more, with the expectations of what the Traveller game can actually do.

At the moment, too many gamers have a fixed idea about what Traveller is, as a setting, when in fact the rule-set should be adaptable towards any type of sci-fi.

My playtesters and I are planning on creating a completely new setting. We have played many games using the traveller rules over the years.

Aye, well with my one vote I went for Other.

I'll shamessly beg, borrow (and the occasional brazen heist) from other sources as I see fit. OTU based, but with a few IMTU twists and turns...

Take care

(who now is using rude words to describe one of my local companies idea of IT support... but thats another thread best ranted in a far far off forum)

I voted Strontium Dog. I tried to make my own SD rpg back when I was 9 and had just discovered ADnD.

But of course the OTU is on the list. My version feels like Stronty Dog anyhow. Be nice to have some fun, game driving bounty hunter rules, though.

I have never heard of Strontium Dog. As for myself, I prefer Starship Troopers, but the original Robert Heinlen Book not the malfed up movies, although the TV cartoon was not too bad.

I completely agree, the book is a classic, the movie just made my laugh then cry thinking what COULD have been done. Where the hell was the "battledress" the book was centered upon!

I will probably run a homebrew (though I haven't begun to build my new ATU yet); the alternative would be to run OTU's TNE:1248, which I like as well.

Without starting an argument, I have always thought that the movie was a great satire on gung-ho militarism, which was highly prescient when you consider what has happened in international politics in the decade that followed it's release in 1998. It was very funny too.

The book, well, I know it's considered a seminal sci-fi novel, but I do think some of the politics it espoused deserved to be lampooned in such an irreverant way (as the movie did).

The cartoon, was just a cartoon though.

I voted for Judge Dredd, by the way.

im planning to homebrew either a battlestar galactica or firefly style setting eventually, but of the ones listed im not sure i can make my mind up atm coz im unfamiliar with the OTU and although judge dredd and strontium dog sound cool i'll have to wait till the setting books turn up before i'll decide on either, travellon 5 sounds cool though :)

I voted homebrew. I preordered the Spinward Marches book, but I plan to run a rebellion based homebrew. I might take the traveller aliens and totally reimagine them or I might just come up with new ones (definitely stealing Star Trek's Gorn and removing Roddenberry's finger prints).

Hi folks,

I've voted OTU, because I hope to see the 1200 Traveller New Era setting redone sometime in the future (in the meantime I'll have to work on it myself), or 1248.

Regards,

Shane

Here is a thought, a traveller universe based off of the various minis at www.Alphaforge.com such as the Hydrissians, Maphalians, and such. Their HADES Battlearmour would make some wicked Battledress.

Paul Verhoeven, the director of Starship Troopers, served with the Dutch
marines, where it was his job to create propaganda movies about the
marines. He produced Starship Troopers more or less as a satire both
on militarism and on military propaganda.
