What the hell?

Mongoose
Ok we have a new ACTA player at my local and he has decided to use Drakh, now i had a quick look at the ships on some of the countless shipveiwers availablke (My hat is off to all the people who made them) What the hell is a GEG and what does it do?

GEG stands for Gravitic Energy Grid. Its a form of shielding that reduces the damage done to the ship by the value of the GEG.

Yep - You remove 3 points of damage before applying the excess as normal. Check out the Drakh source book for more information.

So for instance GEG 3 would remove 3 points of damage after the attack was worked out?
It's slightly more complex than that, although, yes, that's the basics. I suggest you have your opponent show you the rules in his book before you start play.

I don't think you'll find much in there... try the Drakh book instead

Is it used up then refilled at the start of the next turn like interceptors?

  *Feels noobishly stupid*

it stops damage from every weapon that hits. So if you get hit by pulse cannon, missiles and railguns from an Olympus, for example, it stops all three.

IIRC, the rules are also printed in Armageddon although the only non-Drakh ship I am aware of that uses them is the Adira.

HOWEVER.... it has NO effect at all on damage from critical hits.

This can be of little concequence if an attack from say, a neutron laser scores 4 hits and one crit in that lot as GEG 3 to use the example would stop 3 dmg from the 6 points of regular damage.

but if you score only 1 hit and that single hit is a crit, the GEG has no effect AT ALL. Likewise if youre lucky enough to roll all your hits as crits or if you say score 3 hits and 2 of them are crits with the above double damage neuton laser your opponent can only abosrb the 2 regular points from the non critical hit, the rest goes straight throuhg.

So yes GEGs are nasty but with all your nasty precice weaponry and anitfighter guns to stop dodges youre not THAT badly off. In my experience ISA and Drakh can give each other a damn good run for their money normally :)
