I need to get a feel for what powerful sorcerers are like in the Conan series a bit better,and to be quite frank I don't have alot of knowledge of the series of books. What books do those with more knowledge here suggest that I read? I don't mind reading both official and books written by other authors later...in fact a mix of both would be good.

Go to your local used book store, and find any collection of Conan short stories with Robert E. Howard 's name featured prominently. Or find "The Hour of the Dragon" novel. Or if you want a new book, get "The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian: Book One". In particular read "The Scarlet Citadel" and "Black Colossus" short stories in that collection. ASIN: 0345461517

Where in the world do you live ? If in the UK all REH's stories are available in two cheap paperbacks from Gollancz The Conan Chronicles.
