What Scale?

Anyone know what the Davco 1/3000th ships from Skytrex are like?
Having some of both Navwar & Davco, I went to make an updated comparison, and... oh, dear... I've been misleading people it seems! I have apparently misremembered which is which. Here is my current summary...

Navwar have sharper edges & crisper detail, but one big disadvantage - they're moulded with a vertical split. That means there's a mould line runs all the way along the centreline, across turret tops, around funnels & bridge, etc. It can be extremely hard to erase. But the technique does allow moulding undercuts and greater superstructure side detail. Aircraft Carriers are interesting - they have REALLY deep hangar access openings, but the decks usually have a big mould line to clean off.

Davco are not so detailed, and not so crisp. But they're moulded top-down. So the detail is all moulded to be viewed from above, but the mould separation, where visible at all (it's usually on the main deck edge) is on the hull, and easy to sand off. Carriers have virtually no undercuts, but some have deck markings moulded on.

Overall, the detail level is the same, but Navwar are crisper, whereas Davco are easier to clean up. Unfortunately, I've been remembering them the opposite way around (hard to tell which is from which manufacturer once they ARE cleaned up, since both manufacturers make much the same range).

You have just got them mixed up again!

In your last paragraph you state that Davco are more detailed and Navco are easier to clean up which is the opposite of what you said earlier in your reply!

Just curious, given the number of posts from people keen to spend reasonably large amounts of money with them (Navwar certainly - ongoose havebeen very good in pushing navwar as a sort of unofficial supplier of models). I was wondering if &S were returning the favour :)

1/2400 GHQ here at the local club, we had an order (over 750 USD) of ships delivered a few weeks ago from them to supplement or existing fleets (and if you know the tricks of the trade, you don`t pay import costs).

$750 dollars of GHQ ships? That's like a Battleship and two destroyers, right? LOL!!!

Actually, it's a battleship and three destroyers....

I've been collecting 1/2400th WWII ships for 30+ years, so I have a real mix of Superior, CinC, Panzerschiffe, GHQ and gawd knows what else. Oddly enough, I'll be playing VAS in 1/2400th....

GHQ's ships are definitely at the upper end of the price range, but their quality is so far above anything else I've seen it's really hard not to at least get some of their minis. I built my Italian fleet with GHQ's a few years back, and have also added some of theirs to my British, German, Japanese and Americans as well. (Amazingly, except for Panzerschiffes, for years no one made a Northhampton class US CA until GHQ released theirs: I bought the entire class of six.)

Not that I do not have 100s of 1/2400 scale ships around......

Most of mine are C-in-C but I do love the Yamato by GHQ.

If I really was just getting into ship scale 1/3000 or 1/2400 would be the best scale.......... try C-in-C for the smaller ships and GHQ for the Capital ships.

just my two cents!
