What scale are the vehicle kits?

Cergorach

Mongoose
I've looked at the site, the forums, and S&P, but i can't find any mention of the scale of the vehicle kits. Could someone enlighten me?

I'm personally hoping 1:60 (or something very close to that scale). I'm particulary interested in the M1A2, have been looking for one in 1:60 for a long time, the closest i could find is from Hobby Master (1:56)...

while i shouldnt get into this,
30 mm to eye level Wargaming scale is about 1:54
28mm to eye level Wargaming scale is about 1:58
I say make them 1/56, it looks great:)

and isn't there some difference wih some of the train scales between Europe and US

Sorry, when i said 30mm~1:60, i meant 30mm from botom of the feet to the top of the head for an avarage length of 180cm (~ six feet). Or the D&D/D20 scale of 5 feet is a square is an inch...

I really don't want to get into a what is a scale argument, or a 28mm vs. 30mm, or a eyes vs. top of head argyment.

I recollect that HO scale isn't that accurate and could be from 1:87 to 1:64, even 1:64 makes a tank look small next to 28/30mm minis (on bases).

If someone knew how long the hull of the Abrams kit is we could figure out the scale our selves. Maybe we can do the math by analyzing the images with the tank and a based mini...

Hehe it's a jungle with the scalediscussion:D

I'll get right onto photoshop-measuring if i find a good pic
unless someone nice tells me the proper length first;)

The Type 99 MBT seems to be about 53 mm wide, real specs tell me 3.4 m wide..
i'm in too much of a hurry to count on that now tho:/

Why does it matter? They are 30mm using wargaming scale standards. Also they come built and painted so therefore are not kits. :?

Because before i'm going to spend money on these i want to know if they'll fit the rest of my miniatures, because i intend to use them with these. I'm pretty certain others are interested in this for the same reason.

They are 30mm using wargaming scale standards.
Whose standards is kind of the question, 30mm isn't a very exact term as many a mini manufacturer can attest. Is it reaper 30mm, is it GW 30mm, or is it rackham 30mm? Wait it is Mongoose 30mm... But wait, what scale is that exactly? |For figs it is less of a problem, peoples sizes differ, vehicles do not...

What would you have me call them? Toys? Minis?

as long as the scale is closeish it should not matter to much as mongoose games work on measuring from center points rather than modle dimensions, so you could play the game just as well with 15mm or 98mm figs.

its just scaled for 30mm

For trhose who really care the world standard scale for HO is 1/87th not ish the only real flexibility in the scale, not "gauge is in the wheelsets and other strictly operational factors.

1/64 is I believe S scale : N-scale is 1:160 etc.

If you want to find the true scale to mm conversion formula you may Google it but the genrally accepted conversion seems to be:

Divide 1610 by the mm yields scale and divide 1610 by scale yields mm

example: 1610/30mm equals 1:53.6667 scale
example 2: 1610/28mm equals 1:57.5 scale

Mongoose seems to stick very close to a true scale on their SST figures while GW figures are of an heroic (i.e. grossly distorted semi-scale).

If you are truly concerned with compatibility with your current figure collection then purchase only one or two figures (when available) and compare them to your current figures.

Only you can judge whether you consider the figures from different companies as suitably compatible on your gaming table.

Each company seems to follow their own whim about actual scale versus what they regard as visual appeal.

This is why I now prefer Hiostorical miniatures that are designed to an actual scale.

Hope this is of some help to you. :)

Not overly relevant, but there is a difference. In England, they use O scale (1:48) while the US uses HO (1:87.1). For the record, these are the numbers listed by the National Model Railroad Association.

According to the M1A2 technical information, it's 9ft 5in in total hight (including turret). To the highest point of the chassis, it's 5ft 8in. And it's 12 feet wide...

i think the problem in looks comes from the bases, i just wish some one would make flat thin plastic bases the same size as slot bases.

i bought 0.8mm microplywood bases from http://www.litkoaero.com/ just to make my minis a little smaller, they should do the trick:)
I even got the 20mm diameter ones to help with placement on the table, in terrain and so:)

Hi Guys

All the 'Evo stuff is scaled at near as dammit 1:65 scale. (based on a 186cm/ 6' guy being 28mm to the top of his head).
All the vehicles will also be in this scale. I should know; i'm drawing the plans for most of them :)...

The bases making the men look too tall is something we are looking into.

Hope this helps.

By the way if anyone knows or can find the DIMENSIONS of the Iranian Zulfiqar MBT...... I'll buy you a beer... If you PM me with them i'll buy you two  ...

EDIT...

****** PLEASE NOTE THAT I DON'T MEAN I CAN'T PUT ZULFIQAR OR IT'S DIFFERENT SPELLINGS INTO GOOGLE MYSELF******

Try 2pence Coins; 1.85mm thick, 25.90mm diameter. As an added bonus, they're cheap; slottabases (tm) are 5p each :)
