What other figures would you like to have?

Ok its a joke...

Yes, it's a joke, and it doesn't just happen the Canadian Armed Forces, Like Hiromoon said, it happens the Chinese, the US and so on.

And it's all jokes, so smile, cuz I doubt anyone really means to disgrace the Canadian Armed Foces!

*sigh* I just wish you could see my POV, everyday I have to dispel notions of the CF and onboards like this I find myself forced to clear up any erroneous perceptions about the military. Its frustrating and disheartening at times, but if I don't no one else will. I meant no disrespect to any poster but wanted to clear up any wrong information quickly.

and how is it warranted...we are not a super power nor have any aspirations to be one. Considering our population is 30 million compared to the US 300 million?
Nice try. If you want to break it down by % of population the US still has a military 4 times the size of Canada.

I personally do not insult another nations armed forces and if you are going to insult mine pleae at least know what you are talking about.
It wasn't an insult, it's a joke. Granted there is a fine line there sometimes, but still. Different sense of humor maybe.

Anyway, I'm done with this topic as there is no point in arguing. Sorry you were offended.

It's all fun and games till someone starts a flame war.

Yep. You should have seen the French Army jokes.....

You know, I can kinda see you POV on this whole thing.

Should anyone disgrace the Swedish Armed Forces I'd get mad too, thing is, half of the time, whatever they said about us was right

But since these are all jokes, I don't see any reason to get mad.

Ok one more.

No one is saying the CF doesn't serve galantly and fulfill it's role well. From what little I've heard of them, they do a fine job. But the economies of scale just leave it flat when compared to others, hence the jokes. But, when building a coalition I want Canada on board regardless of the size of their committed forces in relation to others. Now the French on the otherhand.... j/k

*shakes his head* Raptor my boy...how about we lay it on the line...a good number of people on these forums have had some form of experience in the military. You're seeing insults where non exist here, Raptor.

Besides, it could have been worse.... I mean, those 15 leopard tanks..I could have said,"but that's all of them!".

I don't get mad when the USAF gets jabbed at. I don't get mad after when the US Army when gets jabbed at (which is even more frequently).
Relax a bit, everybody takes their turn around here.

Except the Gurkhas, because Ted Chang would kill us all in our sleep.

Does that good number include you Hiro?

Where did you serve? The Newspaper Wacking Black Ops?

Still, there's a point to that, even I have a small amout of military experience.

"News Flash! This just in. A force of 65,000 Canadian troops has taken the USA in a surprise attack whilst the million-plus strong U.S. forces were distracted abroad. This maneuver was apparently inspired by a few remarks directed in fun towards those north of the U.S./Canadian border. The befuddled occupiers are now studying whether their new proposed dual English/French language system desired for the U.S. will supplant the trend towards an English/Spanish dual language system that was well underway. Consideration is being given therefore in the possibility of pushing onward into Mexico to resolve this once and for all."

Here is an example of some "mixed humor" that works for either perspective. I've been guilty in the past of poking fun at France, and one of my very favorite political cartoons that I remember was back in the 80's when President Reagan wanted permission to fly F-111s over French airspace to bomb Libya from bases in England. One cartoon frame displayed a map of Western Europe centered on France with a short arrow over the English Channel and the text "French-approved route for allied forces in 1944". The second was the same map with a long squiggly line going out to sea and around France pointing to Libya, with the attached description "French-approved route for allied forces currently". At the same time, I will not ever forget what the French did for the infant United States in our time of need by backing General Washington with the French fleet. The Statue of Liberty was after all made in France, and I'm eternally grateful. In closing, I'll disparage the Italians for equal time in saying an old joke that points to the English spanking the French at Taranto in WW2-
"Why does the new Italian Navy have glass bottoms in their ships?"
"Well, so that they can view the Old Italian Navy, of course!"

Time to move on past this, maybe  .

I'm currently an employee of a Government Contractor for a Department of the Army program, and I'm a USAF Brat, both my parents served 20+ years in the USAF, one of my uncles served in the USAF, another in the USArmy, my grandfather on my mother's side served in the USArmy, same as my grandfather on my dad's side of the family....there's more to it than that, but that's the skinny of it.

Canadian commitment to Haiti a few years back really impressed me, espescially since I REALLY wanted to go. But all of this was just a joke... just me passing the work day, and eagerly awaiting this game.
Raptor, if you're ever near Chicago feel free to look me up for a game a drink.

Oh yeah, former Army, now Air Force myself.

Perhaps you guys are right and maybe I overreacted a bit, I do that when the honour of the CF seems to be called into question. Agreed as well its time to move on....
