Guys, take it outside.

we all have our opinions on GW, but slagging them off is asking to be modded.
we all have our opinions on Mongoose, but as stated it was, and really is a RPG company. they probably did the best they could within their budget on ACTA, and the lack of a future was ineviteable. how many S:AAB games do you see on the market, B5 has been off air far too long. Just blame it all on Triggys playtesting ;-)
Hey, can I help it if I want the ships/stations to actually be balanced? :P

argh you said that on purpose knowing I can't be sarcastic, damn you!!

Well, I can't really agree with that. Battletech has been gone off the air a long time and it is still going strong. Though the video games may help a bunch. As for Triggy... I think the end may have been a little more complicated then that. I hold no grudge against Triggy. I deem Triggy a grudge free zone.

I can see it now a picture of the Miss C playing brand new CTA 3, and her quote below the pic,

the best universe setting I have ever seen.

I still have my doubts about ACTA v3.0

I dost think that it is a back burner project for mongoose. Which means a long wait.

I originally came to CTA for the B5 content however I play any game for the fun element. The CTA game engine is sound and with some of the proposed changes, c.f points based ships etc, coupled with Mongoose's expertise then from a game engine perspective I have no doubts that CTA 3 will be an improvment over CTA 2.

The second question is the fluff. It is not too important to me that a huge licence is invoved. provided that the game is fun and the minitures attractive then I will be interested. I have bought and played many mini games over the years and percentage wise the licenced games are in a minority. Sure "big licence" ships would be cool but then I also have, eg a huge collection of BFG ships, (to name 1 game), and as minis in general they are fantastic with fine detail & excellent casts.

Whether licenced or not, I have no doubt that the fluff that Mongoose will create will be excellent.

My remaining doubts for CTA 3 are business related such as, is it a good idea to launch a new space mini game, licenced or not ?, if so when and that depends on things like, degree of competition out there, (certainly a couple of new space mini games are appearing soon ar have appeared recently). Price of mini metal has skyrocketed recently so do you go metal or resin. Plastic being out d the question?. Recession means less money around.

All of these last questions can only be considered by Mongoose themselves.

So yeah, based on my own, uninformed, analysis of para 3, I too suspect a long wait for CTA 3.

So in the meantime I guess I will be biting the bullet and getting into Traveller and probably the new Dredd game(s)?

Battletech is still a good game but it has lost a lot of interest and not many people play it anymore. And I am haveing a hard time getting people to get in to B5 cause the modles are not going to be made even though the game is great people are just not interested if they can't buy the modles. Now there is this mech game called Heavy Gear made my DP9 (dream pod 9) which is a very interesting game and is starting to pick up speed. A lot less book keeping than battletech games are a little faster and the models are 1/144 scale they make some very nice modles. The game system it self is very fun you have stat cards for your gears, infintry and vehicles they have a similar thing to traits except its called perks. they us point system but the games are set up useing PL. Which determines how many of certain squads and verterns you can take.

I can see ACTA surviving. It is a good easy rules set to use.

Why not make it an "Open License" type game with suppliment / setting add ons.

My money is Fading Suns ACTA as Flaming Cobra is printing the Fading Suns RPG. Fading Suns did have starship combst game Noble Armada and they did release fleet boxes, so the moulds are there.

Good idea. With a decent (balanced) working tool shop of ship design rules CTA V3 would be good.

Exactly! Then those of us who still play will be able to stat out whatever ships we want (B5 for a start), as I'm sure that the rules will not be backwards compatible.

Add: I will buy the 3rd Ed rules, unless it is impossible to use my B5 fleets with them, in which case I stick with what I have now.

If the CTA 3 universe & fluff is engaging and the minis are good design & reasonable quality & price then I will no doubt be playing Mongoose's CTA 3 game as well.

Babylon 5 is not dead, Babylon 5 is LIFE.

I grieve for the loss of the licence and I will not stop gaming with the current products.

Long live Babylon 5.

I'm kinda looking forward to the 3rd ed. Might take some time to come up with point values for ships but we should be able to put the current stuff into the new game. Plus I'm hoping it's a star trek liscense, just with the TNG ships, I'm tired of seeing the TOS ships.

And as far as delays, I think Blizzard is the king of delays, starcraft 2 anyone?

You know, now that I think about it, Eddie Izzard could be a Vorlon, mind you, that makes Tank a Vorlon as well by proxy

"You! Spoo or death!"
"Um, spoo."
"OK, there you go."
"Mmm, good spoo."
"You! Spoo or death!"
"Death. No, no, spoo! I mean spoo!"
"Aha! You said death! Death first!"
"Well, I meant spoo."
"Oh, all right. You're lucky I'm Church of England."
"Thanks!"
"You! Spoo or death!"
"Spoo please..."
"Well, I'm all out of spoo. Only had 2 bits, didn't realise there would be such a rush on."
"So my choice is 'or death'? ...I'll have the chicken."

I always felt that the later B5 projects sucked because he wasn't given the budget he needed, and the series deserved, so the production values were cut, and he had to make due with a fraction of what the original series had.

You can only do so much with a dollar when you're used to spending ten.
