What I'd like to see: Way of the Tiger

Mongoose
... Remember it? Those excellent gamebooks from the 80s where you played the orphan, trained as a ninja, servant of Kwon, and heir to the throne of Irmuncast Nigh Edge.

Mongoose has already resurrected Lone Wolf and it'd be great if these quality game books could also see the same happen to them...

Maybe even bring out an RPG system for it or use Runequest and produce a campaign setting for the world of Orb.

Well... One can dream.

I second this!

The 3rd book of that series, Usurper, is one of the best gamebooks ever! Extremely complex storyline, great mix of politics, combat and storytelling.

An RPG based in the World of Orb would indeed be worth a read!

Nice to know there's at least one other fan!

Totally agree with you about Ursurper. Assassin, Overlord, and Warbringer are also excellent books.

I'd love to get hold of the gamebooks again at least. Would be great if Mongoose could get the rights.

I've only played the odd numbered books, Avenger, Usurper and Warbringer. Of the 3, Usurper was my favourite.

I never got to play the other 3 as they were really hard to come by over in this part of the world.

I think you have the three best one's there although Overlord is very interesting as, in the first part of the gamebook, you get to interview a number of candidates for the city council and your decisions affect your popularity as well as what happens later in the book and in Warbringer.

It was an interesting attempt at something new for a gamebook and I enjoyed playing it. Usurper, Overlord, and Warbringer are definitely the best three books and also follow each other so form a really tight story arc.

Vastly entertaining. In fact, I'd say that I prefer Way of the Tiger to Lone Wolf. Only just though.

It's not a RPG, but maybe the next best thing: The Encyclopedia of Orb (last link on the page), a mini-guide to the world of Orb someone made by pulling out and compiling information from the books. Should be enough to get you started. I ran a game of classic (red box) D&D set in Orb using just this.

Also, you may not be aware of it, but there were other books set in the same world. "Talisman of Death" from the Fighting Fantasy gamebook series, and the Duel Masters series of gamebooks were also set on Orb.

And yes, I would kill for this game, or a setting book.

That's a very impressive document - with all the references its plain to see that a lot of work went into it. I've never seen it before so thanks for pointing it out.

Yeah, the Talisman of Death was among the better FF gamebooks.

Yeah, there seems to be a bit of a gamebook revival at the moment, what with LW, talk on the internet of Fabled Lands and so forth. It'd be nice if the Way of the Tiger saw a bit of a runout!

Mongoose may not be publishing this, but it seems my wish may be coming true:

Website is run by one of the authors, Jamie Thomson and I've been chatting to him - seems the wheels are in motion! Woohoo!!
