What happened to the T/E Revision Thread?

What happened to the thread about the T/E revision annoucement? Did somebody delete the entire thread instead of locking it?

I guess I must have missed something. I left earlier today, and the thread was there. I'm back, and the thread is gone. Completely gone. Kaput.

What happened?

The thread had turned into a "this forum vs. CotI" battleground and had
no more connection with the T/E subject anymore.

If someone has deleted it on purpose, he has my deeply felt gratitude.

Of course people can discuss that kind of "good guys - bad guys" stuff
whenever they like, but I think they should use PMs or at least their
own thread for it, and not "threadjack" one on a completely different
subject.

Hmm... When I left it earlier today, it didn't seem all that heated. I mean, it was only a couple of hours in between me checking it the two times.

Is it the policy here to delete threads instead of lock them?

I don't care either way... I'm just curious. I was kinda shocked to see it gone.

Well, I do not yet know the usual discussion style on this forum, but
in my opinion the thread had become 80 % accusations and 100 %
off topic - but I do not know whether this is considered normal here.

I agree. I dropped in a few hours ago and decided not to make a follow-up post. What stinks is I suspect my post had much to do with it devolving into that and a fight was the exact opposite of my intent.

Matt / Chris / Gooses. I apologize for whatever part I played in that.

Threads get deleted on these forums rather than locked. This usually happens when they are abusive to Mongoose staff or other forumites, rather than simply critical of Mongoose product.

OK. Hmm... Must have been a flame fest after I left.

That is too bad because at the start the thread seemed to be a very interesting one.

But if it went to personal attacks etc then I agree with the Mongoose action to delete it.

I can't quite recall the thread being particularly heated either, although there were some low key personal attacks on individuals from various forums, including site administrator types, that would probably qualify.

Damn!

That was MY THREAD!

I asked the question, go away for the weekend, come back and find out everything is gone.

THANKS GUYS!

You didn't miss much at all. From what I recall most of the thread had nothing to do with T/E.

I knew when I started it that there wasn't much chance of actually getting a response from Chris or Gar, but I was hopeful. Guess not.

So, we wait for the book to come out...

So could someone here tell the POWERS THAT BE how to delete a Post instead of a Topic? Then they would have two tools at their disposal.

The trouble with only having 'a Hammer', is that all problems start to look like 'a nail'.

(You can practice on this post if you want.) :)

The thread went off topic with 2-3 posts... much easier to delete the entire thing.

Many, many threads go off topic. If there wasn't a flame fest after I left for lunch that day, I sure as heck didn't see anything in the thread that was worthy of deleting the entire thread.

Not to put too fine a point on it, Supplement Four, but can you please get over it already? Yes, the thread was deleted. Yes, it got bitchy (and we're both to blame for that). Yes, it was utterly pointless. Who did what or why it got deleted really doesn't matter - but it's gone, so deal with it.

But if you've got an issue with it, just complain to a mod about it in private - there's no reason to carry on about it in public by starting another thread on it (and from what I gather it's generally bad form to start a new thread about a deleted thread anyway, so I wouldn't be surprised if this thread got deleted too).

Just saying. There's got to be something more useful that you can talk about here than complaining about a pointless, deleted thread.

I was just curious because it was deleted. I wanted to know why. I didn't see anything in the thread earlier that deserved the thread being deleted. I don't really care one way or the other--I was just asking.

Now, let's talk about "bad form". Take a look at your post above. It's rude. It's baiting. It's "tone" invites something else than a pleasant response. Given the wording of your post, it reads to me as if you're the one that "just needs to let it go", and your true feelings are that you'd rather fight about it.

Simple suggestion for you: You might want to take your own advice.

Supp-4,
You have to understand EDG has a bit of a 'superiority' issue. He has a Ph. D. in planetary mechanics and doesn't believe in respecting anyone who doesn't agree with how he thinks. Just keep moving on and he might go away (although his world building stuff is quite good, but you'd expect that from a dude with a Ph. D. in the subject).
