What counts as Armoured deck

Things like reliability are best represented by scenario specific rules rather than as core rules (otherwise there would need to be an almost unmanageable host of special rules, for example the ineffectiveness of US torpedoes early in the war, German mechanical reliabilty for some of their main propulsion systems, Mutsu blowing up every few games of her ow accord, South Dakota's electrical system shutting down and cripling the ship when the main guns fired and everyone's radar failing as soon as it was needed!). Its an interestng aspect to bring out in campaigns but not really all that well suited for "pick up" except as another way of levelling forces.

btw the operational level campaign rules have been sent to S&P so may make an appearance in the next few months (fingers crossed!)

I'm in full agreement, with a few quibbles . I'd still punish the Americans (and I'm one of 'em, too!) for the period of 1941-1942 with unreliable torpedoes, as it was a total and wide-ranging problem. A pickup game in that period (as well as Radar accuracy by all nations) should fit the general capabilities. I wouldn't go into detail such as individual ships though for tactical considerations.

Hmm , perhaps a year by year "National Review" might be useful for those who like historical background.

DM, that is not a bad idea, maybe something for S&P ( :) we keep exploiting you, maybe BuShips could help :) )

After all some reliability issues are currently accounted for, examples are, German Radar, or Jap sub hunting. ( I personally see some of the Armoured Deck or Torpedo Belt Trait as treated on a case by case basis currently ).

Of course as I said this is something that players can add themselves, but a nice article on the wargemer edition of the magazine couldn't hurt.

BTW, I read an interesting article on the KGV class torpedo belt post mortem analysis pointing out many of the issues mentioned by DM in his optional rules for this trait.
