What’s my next buy for the MI and Bug?

daggers

Mongoose
Ok, so I have plasma and a second on order, got me 70 or so warriors, a couple of tankers, some cliff mites, fire fries and a dozen hoppers.
Have an order for some mantis bugs, blister/blaster and brain bug too
So what else?
Wondered about burrowers but not seen them in action so don’t know :?

As for MI
Got 4 squads painted and 2 more on the boards and some spares, along with M8s and M9s, not forgetting chas
Don’t fancy the fleet landing party, or the light cap troops, so what’s the next thing?
Would love some ships though.

So any thoughts people?

Bugs - Ripplers or an overseer - both good models.

MI - exosuits or Pathfinders - both good models.

as for exo suits I'me not a big fan of the figures which has put me off them. but they do look good on paper, have you used them

the other thing I didn't mention was the better half is building her skinnies up, so need somethign that can hold there own against them too
cheers for all the advice

Ripplers can be really ugly - most PAMI/LAMI Platoons do not have enough AA defense to significantly harm them.
If an Acid Rippler Squad shoots a PAMI Squad there is a high chance that there will be nothing left to return fire.

Burrower Bugs can be nice if you tunnel things like Hopper, Rippler or Guard Bugs (or a swarm of 2 Mantis or 10 ripped MI CAP Troopers). A bit difficult in use but definately worth a try - be it just because no one expects them.

Also definately worth taking - Controll Bugs. On the MI-intern Midnight Battle on FeenCon one of my Controll Bugs managed to capture a Grizzly Exo and eradicated three (!) full eight-man Squads CAP Troopers (plus one SICON Agent) during the next 2 turns and took one hit off his ex-squad mate before it got vaporised by a Thermic Lance hit.

Exos are fantastic - they're highly manouvrable (though less so in evo), amazingly well armed, and hard to kill. Against Skinnies they clean up - a single squad of Grizzlies with paired sixguns will tear soldiers or raiders to shreds.

i also love the minis though, so YMMV :D

I like Rippler Bugs, Burrower Bugs, and an Infiltrator Bug can mix things up too. I didn't see any mention of Tiger Warriors or Guard Bugs. I really like Tiger Warriors. The extra movement and extra piercing are useful. I often use the Brain Bug's coordinate on a unit of Tiger Warriors if I don';t have any Hopper Bug units. I don't use Guard Bugs currently, but they would appear useful in SST:Evo to allow the Brain Bug to tunnel.

For Mobile Infantry you might want to augment the PAMI squads with Reliant Platforms and Micro Support Weapons. Initially I just bought the weapons separate as bits orders direct from Mongoose. Then I went ahead and bought the actual sets. If I remember correctly the Reliant set comes with 3 platforms and 6 weapons. If you order just the platform bases and posts as bits you can build all 6 weapon options. I think the platform weapon positions make good terrain features or objectives in a scenario game as well.

And WASP Troopers are fun and the closest thing to Hopper Bugs for the MI. I kitted my WASP squads with 2 Hel Flamers each, using leftover weapons from the plastic PAMI. That will work for SST V1 squad composition only. For SST:Evo WASP squads you'd only have the option of Triple Thuds, which are not too shabby either.

Alternatly, invest in some rare earth magnets and make your weapons hot swappable. I did it with my exosuits (similar to buships article in S&P a few months ago)

That's just a crappy way to force players taking Guard Bugs.

Besides that, Guard Bugs are very uselfull in SST 1.0 - you need to roll a 4 to get an Exo killed (that's a 70% chance!). You just need to bring them in at the right moment (reserve or tunnel).

I would really recommend ripplers. Models are good, and hoppers are overkill against LAMI and probably PAMI.
Control bugs are also a cheap fun unit.

Pathfinders are actually prety good. Get a squad of six with two shredders in and mash bugs or skinnies with 14 D6 of shooting.

Or if you want to build up skinnies, I recommend skinnie soldiers or militia. Both are efficient for their points, and the soldier models are good.

Arachnids: Get the Rippler MegaSwarm. Good to use in a game, some of the best-looking models in the game, and a sweet price. I'd also look into an overseer as well for many of the same reasons (plus the "oh crap" factor :))

MI: Nighthawk Marauder to shoot them down :) And WASP troopers. A bit of a pain to assemble, but great in the game. (I've got 15 of 'em.)
