How would you rate carbines firing full calibre ammo, such as M4s and AKSUs, and SMGs?

Also, is the basic rifle range differential between the Brits and USMC rifles compared to Chinese and MEA a result of the rifle, or training, or technology?

id rate them like this:

http://anarchangel.blogspot.com/2006/11/top-ten-battle-rifles-huh.html

its based off of the Military Channels Top Ten Combat Rifles of all time :D

except i would personally switch the Mauser and the FN FAL

Sorry, by "rate" I was thinking in game terms.

If the 20" and 24" range of the AK & M16 corresponds to the usual stated ranges fo these weapons then should the assault carbines have a range of somewhere near 12", and should they gain any bonus for being so "handy" - maybe a + on the users Close Combat dice?

Range of 14"-18" should be fine, you could give them that close combat bonus, but that's not used too much. Movement 5" would represent carrying around lighter arms.

There's lots ways you can go, usually you'd want to give them a special ability.

The range difference between the MEA and USMC is largely because the USMC has the Future Warrior system of integrated red-dot sights, thermal imaging and weapon mounted camera.

As for the range difference between rifles and carbines the effect would be minimal at the ranges depicted in the game. If ,on the other hand, you're talking about relistic ranges the M4 and M16 would shoot about the same size group at 150 yards or 75 table top inches. Beyond that you would notice a difference, maybe at around 100 inches. :)

for assault rifles in BF, we have 2 ranges 20" and 24", it depends on the following
Barrel length
Training or skill
Recoil
iron sites or scopes...

Not sure whats been picked for BF EVO, but its two ranges 24" and 20"
The way i see it in my mind is the following

24" for m16
20" for m4

I see the Ak`s are 20", even that they are long arms, i say its about recoil, the choice is yours...
The range of the MOB shooting is less ( future wave )
But thats about skill i would say.

so..
long arms or short arms with scopes 24"
short arms, or heavy recoil 20"

Smg`s are 15" with 2d6 dice, if you want to add detail to that, in my EVO-S for ghost recon i have done ranges as

Mac 11 12"
mp7 15" : ap -1 to armour roll
mp5 15" : weak +1 to armour roll
ump 15"
p90 15" : ap -1 to armour roll

Same as for star gate rules
Assaullt rifles
scar lt 24"
scar Hy 24" : deadly wound drop to 3+

Not convinced Sarge - what ranges are depicted in the game?
