So i have a scout and got the scout ship benefit and the ship says i have a double turret with no weapons installed i cant seem to find a price for the weapons to install i found the weapon descriptions and how much it costs to refill certain ones but not a cost to actually get the weapon

So i am stupid it is on page 158 if anyone else had issues with this otherwise this post can be deleted or ignored lol

O.K., so, this may be a fairly naive statement, but...

Does it even make any sense at all to have a turret installed by default but have no weapons in it? Why saddle someone with the cost of swapping a turret they don't want out for one they do? Wouldn't it make more sense for the turret to just be capped over until someone actually wants a specific weapons system? Wouldn't a credit toward a turret equal to the value of a double turret, that could be upgraded to a triple turret, be better?

Does it even make sense to have double turrets in the first place, instead of just triple turrets with only two weapons installed?

The double turret is free. Most players are going to be hard-pressed to buy their first weapon system, let alone the second one. And you can always get a trade in credit for the double-turret.

So yeah, it makes sense to have an empty one.

Also you have a long tradition in cannon and the real world of ex military type ships being disarmed before they are passed over to the civilian market. Ex military transports or warships in the Traveller verse are supposed to be disarmed when sold and the few notable exceptions highlight this, I'm talking about the Emissary and Oberlindes here.

The scout service hands ships over to retired scouts who have earned the loan of the ship but they don't go around handing out weapons, fastest way to deal with that is just take out the weapons, the hardpoint and turret mount is left because it's easiest and makes it faster to rearm the ship if recalled to service.

Well, if we're operating from the assumption that the ship was formerly used, why would it still have a double-turret, and not a triple turret? I just don't see a case where a double-turret even makes sense over a triple-turret that just had two guns installed in it. How does this make sense with economies of scale? Regardless, a pre-owned ship is a different story, and often comes with other quirks.

Of course, maybe you're arguing that it's being sold pre-owned because it only has a double-turret. :P

Anyway, on a new ship, and not a pre-owned one, the double-turret credit is the way to go... if they don't abandon them altogether.

Scout ships are always pre-loved. And technically surplus to their needs. You just have to pay for your own pop-guns.
