WASP Trooper project

Mongoose
I'm about to get started on assembling 3 boxes of WASP Troopers. I've got a 1000pt force in mind. Basically it is designed as a small platoon with two symmetrical strike teams each led by an NCO and with a LT overseeing the operation. Or an easy way to get all 15 WASP troopers on the table for a small game.

"The Hornets"
Lieutenant with one plasma munition @150pts
2 NCO's each w/ trench sweeper upgrade @125pts each
2 Squads of 6 each w/2 Hel Flamer upgrades @300pts each

One concern is that after converting 4 Hel Flamer WASP troopers from weapons leftover from plastic MI that somehow my "Classic Rules" force might somehow not be allowed Hel Flamers in the new rules.

I've never used WASP troopers in a game, but I'd like to take this small force out on a trial run after they've been completed and painted. One tactic would be using the Hover/18" to move in and out with the Hel Flamers, kinda like being the love children of Hopper Bugs and FireFrys.

Anyone else use WASP Troopers here? Anyone know how they might be handled in the new rules? Any other comments?

Thanks.

I ran into a bit of a hurdle this morning. Seems like I've got 20 right arm rests and 10 left arm rests out of my 3 boxes. Not a big deal. I just ordered 5 left arm rests from the bits section.

In hindsight while placing my bits order I should have ordered some figures from the WASP set without the WASP packs. I was thinking they'd look good mounted on a regular base with a small piece of wire dressed up as jump pack exhaust for use as troopers on the bounce. There is also the pose with both hands out and closed. That could be useful as a vehicle operator. Oh well, there's always next time.

I always wanted a Pathfinders Force Equipped with Wasp Packs - :) I just think it would be really cool!

So ordering bits is the only way for me to go!

That sounds fun.

I've been ordering some PF heads and shoulder plates myself since I have extra MI unassembled and waiting for some attention. I still need to get the Pathfinder book.

I'll try to get to my Pathfinders after I finish my LAMI troopers. Either that or switch off and do up my Ripplers in between the MI.

I'm not sure how the new rules will affect the way the models' weapons are used. You could always rig up your WASP models with magnets so the weapons swap out. .

I have wondered about the weapon actually. The sniper rifle is not listed as an option for the LAMI squad anymore and the use of the stream template is noticeably missing. I am wondering if they are going to drop the flamer as an option for the basic squads and make the snipers into a small, seperate unit.

We don't typically play tournaments, so a majority of those I know playing SST locally will likely want to stay with the old rules. Not to say I won't be trying the new rules. Personally I may stick with 1st edition at home and use SST:Evo edition to run games at conventions. So I'm hoping that unit organization and upgrades like the Hel Flamers and WASP packs will not be different from the way they are now.

I must admit I am stressing about the potential differences atm.

We shall see what develops. Meanwhile, I've already got an excellent set of rules available to use for those WASP Troopers.

If the new SST rules have the forces laid out the same as before, it is icing on the cake. If not, I'll adapt one way or the other, but at least the game will still be going strong and supported. Now by comparison I used to fanatically play this game called Warzone and well.. Let's just hope that never happens.

I actually plan on using the OLD Army Lists with the new Rules (with some tweaking obviously) until there are enough options for SST Evo.

Did you know that they are supposed to be releasing the existing units in PDF format when the game is released? No waiting for the pre-painted minis to get the stats for the minis that you already own. Not sure the exact date, but I believe that it is supposed to come out sometime in August.

Knowing how swamped the guys at Mongoose are sometimes, I'm not holding my breath (turning blue and dieing really REALLY doesn't suit me Lol).

True, but I am hoping that this time they will make it a priority. Since the original game focused on the power armor MI, I am hoping that we can at least get some kind of official stats on those. Even so, in a previous correspondence Alex had said that the current stats were close enough to use them in SST: Evo, so in a pinch the originals will have to do.

I'm expecting the same thing that usually happens come August. "We had a delay, here is some fluff, should be ready around Christmas."

Cheery bugger aren't I?
