I found the alternative warp drive VERY useful when I created a campaign using the near star list and a realistic three dimensional environment. Removed the issue of all ships carrying double fuel capacity and/or Fuel/cargo containers especially in the early years of star travel.

It's an option.

Though not ideally suited if you're planning on a traditional Traveller campaign, more for co opting Star Trekesque, and/or Star Wars settings.
