VP for Fighters

Hi, I am new to this forum and have just started playing in a B5 campaign and I have a question regarding Victory Points.

When you have multiple ships or figthers in one patrol choice. What happens then, if the enemy shots 1 of them? How much VP does he get?

If some one could help me with this I would be grateful as I might rely on that in my next scheduled fight :D

Fighters are addressed on the bottom of page 49. Basically each flight not launched from a ship yields 1 VP.

The ships that come 2 to a Patrol point each yield the VP of a Patrol level ship (per the FAQ).

Paid for fighters (i.e. not ones that come "free" with a mothership) give away 1VP each if they are killed, even if killed on board a ship that it has boarded during the game.

"Free" fighters never give away VPs.

Hope that helps.

The same as non-upgraded fighters. They are still launched from a ship, therefore don't give away VPs.

Assuming you destroyed the Stuteeka alone versus an equal value of Kliks, there is a slight disparity in point value that you are risking on deployment. The moral being - take the Stuteeka if you're fighting above Patrol Level and can manage that and a queen ship instead of klik flights and a queen.. But I'm sure everyone knew that already and it seems to apply to almost every fleet.

Stuteeka vs Klikkita
Patrol-4;
Stuteeka = 30 VP,
24 Flights of Klikkita = 24 VP
Skirmish-2;
S = 20 VP,
24k = 24 VP
Raid -1;
S = 10 VP,
24k = 24 VP
Battle-1 (1/2 FAP used on Stuteeka vs 1/2 used on Klikkita)
S = 5 VP
18k = 18 VP
War-1 (1/4 FAP used on Stuteeka vs Klikkita)
S = 3 VP
18k = 18k
Arma-1 (1/6 FAP used on Stuteeka vs Klikkita)
S = 2 VP
18k = 18VP

He also asked about ships multiple to a patrol point. I'm not sure if its in the FAQ or not, but the ruling was that each ship gives away the full victory points of a patrol ship, not half. Result being that folks taking advantage of the two for one ships put more victory points at risk.

Triggy pointed out in another thread that you can get some odd situations based on the level of the fight and number of flights in a wing. Kotha are the one I always think of as they are eight flights to a wing. So eight vp for a patrol choice at war level, which is just insane.

Yeah, having them give away VPs on a "per wing" basis rather than a "per flight" basis would make more sense really. Make it so you have to kill 50% or all but one to get the VPs and that would be one way to have a VP system that works at all PLs.

I'd argue for killing enough flights to make a wing. You don't get full VPs for almost killing a patrol level ship, why get them for a patrol-level wing of fighters? It's a lot easier to kill four-eight flights of fighters than it is to kill some of the patrol units out there...

the fairest way to do it is to figure out how many fighters you get with your ships and how many you are paying for as independant wings.
If you destroy half the number of fighters to a wing, you get VP as if you crippled a patrol ship. if you kill enough fighters to make a full wing then you get the full patrol VP. Fighters restored though a "fleet carrier" ability don't count.
If you kill more than the number of fighters bought independantly, then you don't get points for those. no "overcap" 8)
Fighters have to be broken up by type for points, even if they have the same number of flights per wing (as auroras and thunderbolts do.)
1VP per flight while simple and easy is just a mess at some levels. There's no reason VP for fighters should NOT scale when all other VP clearly scale with PL.

The problem with this is that players can keep one flight out of the way and so stop you getting any points at all.

Thanks for all your help so far. I could use some thoughts about my plan for my next battle. I am not the greatest tactician to be truly honest and could use som advice :D

I attacked the dominant player in the campaign we are playing and now have to fight a raid level Recon mission against him. I truly hate this mission as I am seldom able to keep my smaller Centauri ships alive for long against his fast and agile fleet and my Crew Quality really suck, which means that there is a 50% chance of succeeding my scans first time. And yes, none of my smaller ships has a Crew Quality above 4 :roll:

So I was thinking.. What about making a list of 1 Liati and Heaven Patrol Boats for the rest of the points... The Liati is supposed to be kept alive and I would use the Heaven ships (2 for one Patrol Choice) to storm forth, scan like hell and the see how much I can flee with...

For this tactic I have some further questions too.
1 When in the turn phase do you actually scan?
2 If a Liati stays in Hyperspace. How does VP and all that work?

In case it is relevant I also have Darkner ships, Demos ships, Centurions and fighters in my fleet list. My Liati was lucky to get a CQ of 6 btw.

I really hope my opponent isn't reading this... :shock:
