Vorlon transports

hey to day in a 5 pt raid game against the narn mine wall of death .My transports were killed pretty easily I didnt put them into a sqaudron because of the amount of mines comming at me is this ship worth taking ? is it just bad against narn ACTA was the the scenario I had the deployed so he could only hit one at a time with mines .are this ships good for certain battles if so what are they .How should I be using this ship? :D p.s. love the vorlon fighters !!!
 
Vorlon transports are a good skimish ship :) quite quick, can turn well and has a nasty beam at reasonable range.

What was the level of the game? I guess you were in range in turn one - did the beams fail you? :)
 
yeah total beam failure 2d6 always comes up with about 2 hits total also the mine/torp attack just overwhelmed these little ships and with 1 repair its not enough to get through by the time it was turn 4 I had lost 2 of the transports in a 5 raid game .
 
2AD of beam should come up with 2 hits on average, so you weren't doing bad on that front. I can't comment myself on if they're any good because I've only had a couple of games with Vorlons myself, and I only used Transports in one of those games.
 
They have about the same resilience as most skirmish ships now days. Sadly in most games a skirmish ship that get looks at hard pops. The gun is a bit light given it's not backed up by anything else... but that is typical of Vorlon designs.

I would have thought it would have a 3 AD beam myself. Compare it to the milani... take about the same to destroy, Milani has lots more AD (all inferior true) and four flights... Vorlon has a better turn. All depends on how you feel about 1 90 as a maneuver advantage, can be huge in a good players hands with some terrain.

vorlons transports. Best bet is for you to compare it to the destroyer. The destoyer a sinlg one gets you 4 transports. Now make your decision on whether you want lots of little ships, which gives you a good redundancy and more beams. Or something that is a little bit more vunreble to those one shots haha you die, is less manouvarable but with an amazing self repair can survive almost anything.

I personally prefer lots of little pains in the preverable.
 
Most of the Vorlon fleet's ships perform better in lower Pl games. This means that the Skirmish PL Transport tends to work best in Skirmish and Patrol PL games where its manoeuvrability and Self-Repair (without a Crew score to worry about) can really be used to the max. In larger games, particularly Battle PL and above, Transports don't do a lot beyond acting as initiative sinks. Sure they get off the odd good shot but generally die in a single round of fire when they are targetted. This not only wastes their Self-Repair but also deprives you of some firepower.

In general I wouldn't spend more than 2 FAPs on ships of a lower PL than the scenario for Vorlon fleets, other than in a Raid PL game where you don't have many options and two Destroyers is a little inflexible, particularly if you want to take a couple of wings of the excellent Vorlon Fighter!
 
Well I am finding out the same as you triggy in 5pt Raid games I prefered the two destroyer and fighter combo even against the Narn mine wall as I call it .I love the fighters and love the destroyers they perform well in raid games .The transport is just to weak for raid and above I feel .I will try them out again perhaps If I leave them toward the back at set up and out on the flanks (in a staight up fight that is )to use their speed and so the enemy doesn't shoot at them because he has other targets . Dont know I will try them and see. but I find myself already agreeing with you. Patrick
 
5 point raid....heck, take two destoyers and two transports and just pillbox the whole thing. Transports support the destroyers and the destoyres kill everything on the table. (or move the transports up as bait)
 
I would go with 1 destroyer, 4 Transports and 4 wings of Vorlon Fighters. That would give you a nice all round fleet
 
Clanger thats what I took the enemy had 2 dag kars,1sho kar,1 t ran,1ka tan,g karith.I move in first turn and stopped lots of mines against my fighters so my fighters were spread out vs the mine attacks .they did quite well against the enemy fighters (no surprise) all mine attacks +long range guns destroyed one transport then by turn three one more transport gone .I was not rolling well with my beam attacks but he was down two ships aswell .we also did the (no threshhold vorlon rule wrong) as one of my transports was heavily damages but we counted as crippled .So the 20+ mine attacks + the wpns I found just overwhelmed the transports but I am going to try them out again. Today in fact 5 pts of battle ! So I will give you a report from that battle thanks for the advice I need it . Patrick
