Vorchan Stand Assembly

Okay, seriously... how the hell is the Vorchan supposed to be able to defy gravity, let alone remain standing through a stiff wind with that horridly small base contact?

It's barely big enough for the stand's sprue at the widest point, but I can't possibly drill enough out to be able to put enough of the flight stand on there so if I were to... I don't know, sneeze? ... I don't have to break out my super glue and a spare flight stand.

Can anyone share their pointers on how to get this really cool Skirmish ship in a pose other than dead paperweight? Thanks!

I just drill a hole through the main fueselage and stick the stand / adaptors in it (now that finally started using the Ninja magic ones- why was I so stuopid as to wait)

I used a pinvice to very carefully make a hole on the base contact. It was a case of using the smallest bit to make a pilot hole, then enlarging it gradually. It was pretty tense stuff though, as you have next to no margin of error. I even banished the cat from the room, in case he headbutted me at the wrong moment. As for the stand, I cut them down by over half. It lowered the minies centre of gravity, and stopped them from looming over the rest of my fleet. I havn't had a breakage yet.

I've cut the little "buldge" part on the lower vertical wing away [the bit where you are supposed to stick the base - yah right.] which returns the ship back to its sleek profile.
I then drilled a hole under the horizontal wing, doesn't matter which side, and glued in place a small 5mm longish piece of hollow brass rod. This forms a reciever. Then for the base I use a smaller size square brass rod, knock it into the base hole, which fits a treat and with some superglue won't be coming back out.

Once its all dry you have a solid, sturdy, and detatchable base. Most importantly it means transporting the vorchan isn't such a beehatch anymore.

Don't even bother with the stem. Just mount the model straight onto the circular part of the base. I used magnets to make it removable, but it doesn't matter too much.

I've got 7 Vorchans. I use a sandpaper fingernail file (you can get a ton for cheap in the make-up section at Walmart - these are indispensable whenever your working with any kind of miniature). I sand down the flat part of the "nub" on the vertical wing to get rid of the distortions. Then press a sharp thumbtack into the center of the "nub" to make a punch mark for a pin-vise drill bit. Drill out a pilot-hole and then another proper sized hole that matches to some brass rod (I think it was 3/32" rod - which you can pick up at Hobby Lobby or any decent hobby shop. Get a lot of it as brass rod is essential with any of these models. I mount all my Fanheads on brass).

Anyway, sand the end of the brass rod smooth with a bit of a champher and superglue it in the hole. You can beef up the brass rod on the other end by slipping it into the next size up rod that you superglue into the base. It will be very strong and stable...and intimidating especially when you set them up at staggered heights ...oooooo ya! Either way, you might as well bite the bullet and get a pinvise set, various brass rods, and fingernail files. They are all useful.

Lastly, I do a lot of "pinning" whereby you use stiff wire (like paperclip size or smaller) to replicate gun barrels and other such more realistic looking things by drilling into the model and so on. If you aver built an Adira, pinning is imparative. So, I also got a cheap digital micrometer for $25 from Menards so I can properly match wire or brass rods to the proper drill bit...but that's getting pretty crazy...but just a thought...
