VHB 2026 Errata

I'm seeing Grav vehicles at TL8 but according to the Core Rules (and the TL chart in T5), gravitics are introduced at TL9?

World Builder's Handbook has early grav vehicles like air/raft at TL8, as it should be in Traveller.

I personally think TL9 would be better for the "Early" Grav, and TL8 for "Prototype", but that is just me. That would make TL10 the "Standard" against which everything else is compared.

(That would also fit with the Megatraveller TL9/10/12 Basic/Standard/High-Efficiency Grav-module breakdown).

Both T5 and the Mongoose core rulebook put grav vehicles with gravitics at TL9. If an air/raft shows up at TL8, that’s not early grav, that’s just ignoring the tech tree.

In original Classic Traveller, Air/Rafts were TL8.

(But then again, in CT, TL8 corresponded to the years 1980-1989 also). - Where's my flying car!

But I gave my personal opinion in my previous post.

Air/Rafts have always been TL8.
I think it was MegaTraveller that introduced the concept of Lifters as a TL8 grav tech that was very limited, hence the 10D limit to grav vehicle range.

Yes. The MT Interplanetary G-Drive had a 10D limit, and was TL10. The M-Drive "Thruster Plate" was TL11 and not limited by gravity wells.

LBB3 1977:

The great thing about LBB '77 was that there was none of this "circa 1980-89" nonsense. Tech Indexes (also called Tech Levels) were derived from technology breakthroughs achieved. So, you weren't TL8 until you'd mastered gravitics and fusion.

On the Speed Band table on page 18 the distance per round is not clearly defined. Is it meters?

Why are auxiliary grav drives or auxiliary lifters only available at TL10, when normal grav is available at TL8 according to page 30?

My interpretation was because they are smaller and more advanced.
The opposite argument could be made - they're only auxiliary and thus don't have to be powerful so a few grav modules will do the job.

The point is I guess we're left to our own interpretation as there is no explanation in the book.

I noticed that bio tech vehicles in the updated book don't have the +10% shipping size/volume that it had in the previous book. Is that an intentional change?
