Vehicles dtons and tons questions

Mongoose
Morning all,

So far I seem to find that only 1 vehicle that has a displacement tonnage listed in any of the books in my collection. The collection currently consists of the Core Rulebook (hardcover and pdf), HG (softcover and pdf), Scouts (pdf), Mercenary (pdf), and Trades and Gunboats (pdf). I've ordered the softcover of Fighting Ships.

The ATV in the table found on Core Rulebook page 111 appears to be the only vehicle that has d-tons listed.

Two questions:
Did I miss the displacement tonnage for the vehicles?
Is there anyway to convert the vehicle's mass into d-tons?

Also, I have noted a slight issue with some of the vehicles in the books that are equal to or greater than 1,000 kgs or 1 metric ton. The issue is that the vehicles mass is listed in tons like the Mariner, Scouts p. 52, is 15 tons. In the small craft, standard ship, and captial ship design sequence ton is displacement ton and is also annotated as ton. This can be a bit confusing, if the person is half awake or not had enough coffee.;-)

Other than these two items I like what Mongoose has produced.

Both the Air/Raft @ 4 dTons and ATV/AFV @ 10 dTons are listed. The others aren't.

What is missing is the actual masses, the only figure that is given is Displacement tonnage.

In general, NO. But if you have an exterior dimension you can fake it from there. My rule of thumb is the footprint of the vehicle plus a meter for vehicles in a garage/hanger. Footprint of the vehicle for storage/shipping.

The old standard which hasn't been adopted by Mongoose was a Ton was assumed to be a displacement Ton and a metric Ton was Tonne.

I generally annotate a Displacement ton as "dTon", and metric tons as ton. But that is my choice and isn't universally used by the community.

Howdy Infojunky,

Thank you once again for answering one of my many questions on this and a couple of other forums.

Yep, you are right that there are two vehicles listed in the table of the core rulebook that provide d-tonnage information. I generally lump the air/raft with small craft since the little bugger can achieve an orbit.

Yep again, the mass is missing in both the vehicle text and table on pages 103 and 104 of the core rulebook. A quick check of Mercenary also seems to have left out vehicle mass and dtons.

This may scare you but I basically used most of your rule of thumb to introduce the a real world APC into a design I'm working on.

I'm more familiar with displacement tons being abbreviated as dtons or dTon. The definitions inset of core rulebook, p. 105, shows the abbreviation for displacement tons as d-tons. When talking about mass I use tons for either short or metric measures.

Again thank you for the help.
