Vehicle Creation System (TM)?

One may suspect that a vehicle design system may very well show up in one of the upcoming vehicle books. Just a thought.

Correct. The Civilian Vehicles and Military Vehicles books will include the vehicle design system. I will be starting work on these books next month :) I'm not sure of the exact release date but I think they will be out later this year.

One hopes the design system is already written, then. Design systems are not to be rushed unless you feel an urgent need to be vilified and castigated by the technorati who lurk in the darker corners of Traveller fandom.

Whaddaya mean "darker corners"? 8) 8)

Here's agreeing, against all realistic hope, that the system is already written and isn't going to be created "on the fly" as the statement made hints. :? :? :? :? :?

The funny thing is they exist everywhere.... Man you should have seen the vehicle flame wars on GURPS.net..... Not to mention the TML.... I think all gaming lists are dark corners.....

I hope it will be relatively simplistic, not the mind numbing process that FF&S and Gurps:Vehicles became.

I for one would be happy with just a general set of guidelines starting with Game info, i.e. hull and structure... I pretty much can do the rest....

Yes, indeed. I would hope for a modular system like the one for starships,
and not more complicated than, for example, GURPS Spaceships.

William Barton (I think) did one for Space Gamer many years ago. Just about Book 2 level, and quite sufficient until Striker came along a year or two later...

Yes, the system already exists :)

Yes, the system already exists :)

If it exists would it be telling what the Hull/structure ratio is?

Since it already exists....

And lo, the fishing for of hints from the Holy hill of the Great Mongoose doth begin...

Silhouette VCS is a pretty simple yet comprehensive vehicle construction system. So, here's hoping that it will be a bit similar to it.

On the other hand if the system is already written, there is not much we can do :)

OMG.

Mecha.

Did he say Mecha?

I would like to believe that these are included for the sake of using them in ATU.

If you believe DGP, there are a few OTU polities that use striders, and legged transmissions, if presented small enough, may also blend into Battledress design and walkers for Dolphins.

Hello Infojunky,

Hopefully my interpretation of size meaning d-tons is correct here is some information that may pertain to this thread.

The core rulebook lists the d-tons and cost for the Air/Raft and ATV in the Vehicle and Drones table on p. 111. Some vehicles statistics, the table is on p. 103, are also presented. Unfortunately, as mentioned the vehicle mass and d-tons, except in the case of the Air/Raft and ATV, does not appear to be listed.

Until then, we'll have to extrapolate from the existing vehicle stats in the core book and other sourcebooks.

Actually the Core-book and Mercenary are useless for this, there are no masses or sizes for vehicles in it. Scout is the only book so far that has enough to build a rough standard.

All I need is some Ball park numbers and I'm golden. I have at least three systems that I can steal from if I need specific numbers....

Really all I need is the hull/structure bits the rest isn't really a problem....
